I was planning to buy a bunch of things from Penzy’s a few months ago, but postponed doing so for a variety of reasons...and I’m glad of it.

No Penzy’s for me. Nor Kelloggs. Nor Starfucks (go to http://www.blackriflecoffee.com/ and buy from Special Forces vets that cater to the pro-2A and veteran communities - and read the reviews, they’re GREAT entertainment).

Screw all of these people. I will NOT buy from any business (not if I have a choice) that chooses to put Leftist, one-world politics ahead of everything else. Just make your product, or sell your service, and otherwise STFU! They all have a right to say and believe as they wish - but I have a choice as to whether I’m going to give them the money to contribute to anti-American causes.

He is claiming that he has had increased business since he made his first statement. It is the Christmas season and women are baking. So increased business may be only the usual - or - it could be a spike from liberals making a statement of their own. It willb e short-lived.

But for those who are offended by this jerk, we will have long memories. It will show up in his earnings after January 2017. No more shopping at Penzey’s for me.

Gays are what?—3-5% of the population? But I bet close to 100% like to cook and do so with flair. That means a lot of gay spice users. So this is probably the financial demographic they have examined closely. Gay rights is likely just another word for profit margin in this case

You are right. It’s not just the gay market, it’s the vegan market and the holistic market. It’s a left wing demographic. I think it was a smart move for them and that’s all I think it is .... a marketing tool.

Here’s what I sent to them via email:

“You recently stated, “What we learned is that President-elect Donald Trump has no real support. Voters, sure, but no constituency.” You proceeded to basically call anyone who voted for Trump a racist and a hater. I am no such thing, nor are dozens of people whom I know voted for him (and ditto for many others that I know and only suspect voted for him). In other words, you have just insulted me, my (Jewish, Hispanic and obvious female) wife, many other family members and lots of my friends.

I am (or, rather, WAS) a potential customer of yours. I am on your mailing list and have several of your catalogs. Your site is bookmarked on my computer (well, again, it WAS). But specifically because of your entry into the political arena - on the side of those who are unwilling to listen to the perspective of people on my side of the political fence, and who constantly demean us “deplorables” - I am now never going to spend so much as a single penny with you.

When you are in business, entering into politics on either side of the political spectrum is suicide, because you are almost guaranteed to tick off about half of your actual and potential customers. So, here is some advice for you: sell spices, and shut up. Oh, you certainly have a right to whatever political opinion you want, and also the right to shout if from the rooftops if that suits you - but don’t expect that people like me will suck it up and keep buying from you, because you’re not a monopoly, you have competition. Good business people avoid ticking off customers and potential customers like the plague - but, apparently, you’re not that bright. Maybe the coming fall in your fortunes will be educational to you, maybe not. But you will suffer financially from insulting about 50% of the population of this country - have fun with that.

For the past couple summers I’ve grown my own spices in large pots. I have fresh mint that comes up in the Spring every year. Have you ever had watermelon, with chopped mint and crumbled feta cheese as “starter” for your guests?

The basil does well too, and you can store it in the freezer or dry it. I have dryer that works great.

I think if I had the space I’d love to have a spice garden outside of my kitchen.

Have to say no I haven’t. While I enjoy cooking and eating delicious food, I don’t have the time nor money to dive deep into that. My herbs & spices are limited to basic needs. I’m sure when I get closer to retirement, I will expand my horizons in the culinary world. For me right now, basics are all I need.

There are 3,141 counties in the United States. Trump won 3,084 of them. Clinton won 57. Los Angeles and NYC are certainly not representative of the whole of the United States.

I had read nothing but good reviews for their spices and had looked forward to ordering from them. No more. I think the self righteous tone of their scold and ignorant presumptions ticked me off more than their political support of Clinton. I figure plenty of companies did not support Trump. They however have the good grace not to finger wag at their customers who did.
