Flashback: That Time Obama Mocked Trump For Not Having a 'Magic Wand' to Keep Carrier Jobs in US

In the wake of Carrier announcing they were moving jobs from Indiana to Mexico, President Obama told one of the company's employees during a June town hall meeting there was nothing that could be done about the trend of jobs leaving America.

“What can we look forward to in the future as far as jobs, employment, whatever? Because all of our jobs have left or [are] in the process of leaving, sir,” Eric Cottonham asked the president.

Part of Obama’s response included telling Cottonham that some jobs that were leaving wouldn’t be returning.

“What we have to do is to make sure that folks are trained for the jobs that are coming in now because some of those jobs of the past are just not going to come back,” he said.

He then shifted to talking about Donald Trump, who months earlier on the campaign trail said that if he were elected and Carrier did move the jobs to Mexico, he’d look to impose taxes on all products that were sold in the U.S.

“ … when somebody says, like the person you just mentioned who I’m not going to advertise for, that he’s going to bring all these jobs back, well how exactly are you going to do that? What are you going to do?”

“There’s — there’s no answer to it,” Obama said.

“He just says, ‘Well, I’m going to negotiate a better deal.’ Well, how — what — how exactly are you going to negotiate that? What magic wand do you have? And usually, the answer is he doesn’t have an answer,” he continued.

The only worth this man has given to this country is to enlighten the citizens to what a douche bag is.

If Honesty was still a virtue worth living up to, All of these Articles would be Pointing out that Clinton/Bush/Obama Created this climate of relocation in an effort to “Equalize” the playing field. Which is IMPOSSIBLE, We can NEVER bring these third world dictatorship hell holes up to our Standard of Living, we can ONLY bring ourselves down to their Level of Poverty, then we will be equal.

The comments he made are a clear illustration of how incompetent a community agitator is in regards to understanding how anything works beyond rallying people to get together and hate something, or someone.

Yeah, that magic wand is a pen and a phone.....let’s see how that works when an honorable person uses it for the benefit of America as opposed to “...fundamental transformation...” toward an evil social/commu/prog/Sh17-ist agenda.

“apply forceful reverse-flow pressure to it!”

The media will never point out Obama’s failures. That would be Raycis.

Obama thinks it would take a magic wand... Anyone with a basic understanding of business would know what drivers could be leveraged in a conversation with Carrier.

America’s first OJT president failed miserably. If I understand obamahole’s background correctly- President of the United States of America is his first real job as an adult. If we had a critical media (yeah, I know) and reasonably intelligent electorate (yeah, I know) the issue of resume would have kept us from the last 8 years.

I don’t see the Terrorist in Chief keeping jobs in the US. Trump did without any presidential power.

Under America's Constitution, with its strict limits on power in the federal government, Presidents are not expected to use pens, pads, or "magic wands." Originally, they understood the President's role to be steeped in and anchored in the principles embodied in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. What a profound concept for review as we leave the current administration and anticipate a new one.

President Lincoln expressed admiration and defense of what he called the "principles of Jefferson," perhaps a recap of those principles, as expressed by Jefferson in his 1801 Inaugural Address, might be in order here:

Jefferson's Inaugural Address, As it appears in Our Ageless Constitution,p. xiv, reformatted)
"Let us, then, with courage and confidence pursue our own Federal and Republican principles, our attachment to union and representative government. Kindly separated by nature and a wide ocean from the exterminating havoc of one quarter of the globe; too high-minded to endure the degradations of the others; possessing a chosen country, with room enough for our descendants to the thousandth and thousandth generation;

- entertaining a due sense of our equal right to the use of our own faculties, to the acquisitions of our own industry, to honor and confidence from our fellow-citizens, resulting not from birth, but from our actions and their sense of them;

- enlightened by a benign religion, professed, indeed, and practiced in various forms, yet all of them inculcating honesty, truth, temperance, gratitude, and the love of man;

- acknowledging and adoring an overruling Providence, which by all its dispensations proves that it delights in the happiness of man here and his greater happiness hereafter

—with all these blessings, what more is necessary to make us a happy and a prosperous people?

- Still one thing more, fellow-citizens—a wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned.

- This is the sum of good government, and this is necessary to close the circle of our felicities.

"About to enter, fellow-citizens, on the exercise of duties which comprehend everything dear and valuable to you,

- it is proper you should understand what I deem the essential principles of our Government, and consequently those which ought to shape its Administration. I will compress them within the narrowest compass they will bear, stating the general principle, but not all its limitations.

- Equal and exact justice to all men, of whatever state or persuasion, religious or political;

- peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with none;

- the support of the State governments in all their rights, as the most competent administrations for our domestic concerns and the surest bulwarks against antirepublican tendencies;

- the preservation of the General Government in its whole constitutional vigor, as the sheet anchor of our peace at home and safety abroad;

- a jealous care of the right of election by the people—a mild and safe corrective of abuses which are lopped by the sword of revolution where peaceable remedies are unprovided;

- absolute acquiescence in the decisions of the majority, the vital principle of republics, from which is no appeal but to force, the vital principle and immediate parent of despotism;

- a well disciplined militia, our best reliance in peace and for the first moments of war, till regulars may relieve them;

- the supremacy of the civil over the military authority;

- economy in the public expense, that labor may be lightly burthened;

- the honest payment of our debts and sacred preservation of the public faith;

- encouragement of agriculture, and of commerce as its handmaid;

- the diffusion of information and arraignment of all abuses at the bar of the public reason;

- freedom of religion; freedom of the press, and freedom of person under the protection of the habeas corpus, and trial by juries impartially selected.

These principles form the bright constellation which has gone before us and guided our steps through an age of revolution and reformation. The wisdom of our sages and blood of our heroes have been devoted to their attainment. They should be the creed of our political faith, the text of civic instruction, the touchstone by which to try the services of those we trust; and should we wander from them in moments of error or of alarm, let us hasten to retrace our steps and to regain the road which alone leads to peace, liberty, and safety." - Thomas Jefferson
