White House, Pentagon back requiring women to register for military draft

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration declared its support Thursday for requiring women to register for the military draft, a symbolic but significant shift that reflects the U.S. military's evolution from a male-dominated force to one seeking to incorporate women at all levels.

President Barack Obama has been considering whether to adopt the position since last December, when Defense Secretary Ash Carter ordered the military to open all jobs to women, including the most arduous combat posts. Ned Price, a spokesman for the White House's National Security Council, said Obama believes women have "proven their mettle," including in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"As old barriers for military service are being removed, the administration supports -- as a logical next step -- women registering for the Selective Service," Price said, using the formal name for the military draft.

It all started back when women were allowed in the regular armed forces and it has been a steady creep since then.

It is a tough call, but it is called equality.

If compulsory service were instituted with follow on mandatory reserve time up to age 50, a Draft wouldn’t be necessary. Much like the IDF or Swiss programs. Extend the military mission to include a homeland functions and call it a well regulated militia.

Our daughters and granddaughters dodged a bullet here. They could have been eye to eye, fighting ISIS jihadis.

Moral society dodged a bullet here....

Evicted tenants, trashing the place on the way out the door.

Peace until the swearing in, don't rile them up to cause any more damage. Then let them have it.

As near as I can find the “Tooth-to-Tail” ratio is about 3:1.
There are 3 support personnel for each combat position.

There are plenty of behind the lines people in service that have almost no chance of being near a bullet.

Why? We’re not actually going to draft anybody ever again. Registering ANYBODY is a complete waste of time and paperwork.

The only upside I can see is that they would be subject to the same penalties as males for non-registration.
