If he is to be believed (and there's every indication he believes his crap himself), he thinks his legacy is intact because, as with the midterm defeats, he doesn't think he had anything to do with them or Hillary's meltdown.
You make a valid point there. Obama does go into denial mode whenever things don’t go his way. He never accepts responsibility. He is a narcissist of the first order who thinks he’s infallible.
But privately, he’s probably fuming. You can sense this in the way he gets on his high horse, takes on a haughty tone, and starts blaming everyone else. Its an indication (at least to me) that he’s threatened by facts that challenge his views.
