A toxic smog cloud has engulfed London and Paris amid warnings of high pollution levels in the two capitals effecting millions of people.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan issued warnings for the first time at bus stops, Tube stations and roadsides in the capital because of what he described as "high pollution levels".

Meanwhile in Paris, a potentially more dangerous smog cloud has engulfed the city for two days.

Health bosses in the two cities have said that anyone experiencing discomfort such as sore eyes, a cough or sore throat are advised to consider reducing their activity, particularly outdoors.

I don’t believe it.

Unless the meanings of “thick” “toxic” and “cloud” have changed.

This is what you get when a large fraction of automobiles in London and Paris use diesel engines—and many these engines don’t have the latest emission control systems designed for diesel engines (advanced diesel particulate filters and selective catalytic reduction with urea gas injection). You’ll never get this in Japan now, since the vast majority of taxis and buses there now run on clean-burning compressed natural gas.

Didn’t London evacuate and close the Tube stations just yesterday?

I wonder if this is related to the never-fully-explained evacuation of multiple tube (subway) stations reported yesterday.

Every time I read that, the less I can believe it.

In the olden days the city of London stank so bad people would leave in the summer time to avoid the bad air “miasma”.

During the great Plague of the 1665, bonfires were lit to try and drive off the “bad air” believed to cause the black plague. They also killed off the dogs and cats for the same reason. This let the rats and their fleas multiply beyond control. The Great Fire of London, when the plague was decreasing helped knock out the rat problem for a while.

I just drove through Paris this morning and I can confirm that the smog was heavier than I’ve ever seen it. The road signs also warn to reduce speed because of the pollution.

Paris, with its tedious pollution warnings, is where the French live longest.
So the “thick toxic smog” exists only in the sick mind of the junk scientists and eco-scammers.

They should read Dickens and Conan Doyle and rejoice in the clean air they enjoy today, even on a bad day.
