Pretty much all of your comments are off base, and by out of your lane I meant you have not a clue what you are talking about. Veterans and military benefits are unique and not comparable to anything else and to compare them to welfare in any way is an insult to everyone serving or ever has served.

Military service enlistment is a contract, and the government has and does agree to certain things in the contracts. Benefits to military and Veterans are part of a wages/benefit package. Many would not enlist or continue to serve if the entire package did not make it worth it to them.

And FYI VA care is not free to all veterans. Depending on whether a veteran is retired, service related medical or not, there is a priority system and for non-service connected based on income some veterans pay co-pays and some care is reimbursed by private insurance so you have no idea what you are talking about.

Whether one volunteers or was drafted has nothing to do with the wages/benefit package agreed upon. When there were draftees nearly all of them served honorably and many died for this country- once they put the uniform on it doesn’t matter whether they joined or were drafted they are all active duty while serving and later veterans.

When people start talking about taking this or that away or making drastic changes without knowing the issue they are essentially wanting the military/veterans to give up part of their wage/benefit package. Benefits to military and veterans are not part of a give-away program like government cheese.

How would you like to sign a contract with a company and have people who know nothing about your contract, working conditions, ETC. to just say certain things should just be taken away from you later? Yet that is what you are suggesting.

Some things may need to change, but the military must be paid, and people would have to be willing to pay them more in salary and retirement in order to balance loss of benefits or it would be impossible to recruit people like we need in the military.

You suggest veterans go out of the VA system for medical care and that is already being done with referrals to private care; so again you have no idea what you are talking about. Could we do away with the VA and refer them all out- possibly but one would have to be very careful doing a drastic change like that- it would have to be phased in and in some areas the VA care is outstanding so those veterans would be punished.

People like you want to have the best military in the world and claim to support them, yet you are willing to stab them in the back, and break a promise made to them in order to save a buck- in reality you probably wouldn’t save anything. There is likely waste/fraud in the system itself that can be fixed to save money, but you didn’t even mention things like that. You are comparing their benefits to welfare and wanting them to give them up.
