Indiana officials agreed to give United Technologies Corp. $7 million worth of tax breaks over 10 years to encourage the company’s Carrier Corp. unit to keep about 1,000 jobs in the state, according to people familiar with the matter.

The heating and air conditioning company will invest about $16 million to keep its operations in the state, including a furnace plant in Indianapolis that it had previously planned to close and shift...

“Taxes are paid by the consumer not the corporation.”

That’s BS. Often said on the Internet by people wanting to seem in-the-know or wise, but the fact remains that profits suffer after revenue with higher taxes, and sales suffer from higher prices which reduces revenue. Corporations do, indeed, pay.

Employees also suffer because there is only so much revenue budgeted for payroll and when employees stupidly vote for payroll taxes they are taxing themselves. Companies only have so much money, it isn’t grown on trees. If they employees demand by law that 3% of the payroll goes to unemployment taxes, OK, they only get the remaining 97% in their paychecks.

1100 jobs re going to Mexico, what are you talking about. 1100 Americans will be out of work. You obviously think that is a win. When indeed advise on where to go, you’re in my top 100 people to contact. Bad day.

What the hell is the issue?
This is alway going to be “carrot and stick”

You increase tax and tariff to punish and action.. you cut tax and tariff to encourage an action

So this is a tax break(they are not giving them money .. they are taking less money from Carrier) taxing less is 100% conservative libertarian.....that a “carrot”

And on that back side your do not know the “stick” that was shown to Carrier...( you’re going to lose government contracts , the product you import back from Mexico will experience a tariff)

All businesses do this...try to get the best deal with carrots and sticks. Of preferred pricing for preferred customers or loss of business from us if you don’t give us a good deal

Hell you do this when you buy a car or house or negotiate a new job...

??? Then what the hell is he doing.? Of course he isn’t president yet. So now he can turn his campaign promise/warning into a lie because it’s not January 20. Get real.

Taxpayers are NOT paying one single penny of the 7 million.
Get that through your head.

Have you looked at Indiana’s budget? It’s a nightmare.

Since you mentioned it, I looked it up. Indiana finished their last budget with a $210M surplus and they have reserves of $2.14B. Doesn't sound like a nightmare to me.

“purity choir?”

The best thing to do would be to eliminate the regulations that are making businesses non competitive in the first place.

Establishing regs and cutting breaks for buddies or others for political reasons is banana republic stuff.

Sorta goes along w/that equal protection under the law thing.

Look Trump is promising to cut middle class taxes .. AKA tax relief just like Carrier

Are you conservative and say he’s not taking my money with taxes?

Or are you a leftist saying he’s giving you money by taxing your less and we are on the government dole?... some of these conservatives saying this sound like Obama and Elizabeth Warren... you didn’t actually build what you built you didn’t actually make what you made it was all given to you by the government because with the government didn’t take it from you

Okay, I grant you that the tax break isn’t what we were after, but perhaps they did this for Indiana being so loyal to them, those 1,000 people are probably going to be pretty happy. However, and I share your concern about what’s going on and I’d even add some of his admin pic’s in there as well make me nervous. But I have to hang in there and give him a chance. Unlike the democrats, who stuck with Hillary even knowing she’s the most corrupt beast on earth, we are honest to a fault, convicting our guy before he even takes office. I know, it’s what we do ...

If the laws says you’re supposed to hand over X, and then somebody says “well if you do this we’ll shave some off of X” that’s a bribe.

The big problem here is really that everybody is acting like this is some massive win, with headlines saying Carrier isn’t leaving. Over half the jobs ARE STILL LEAVING. This was at best a draw. Some of Carrier is staying, which is nice, but they’re still mostly leaving. And only time will tell which jobs are leaving. If the high paying jobs leave while the low wage jobs stay it’s not even a draw, and if the jobs that stay wind up with no back fill so when people leave they don’t get replaced it’s still a loss.

I’m not saying the move was bad. I’m saying the backslapping congratulations are bad.

How much taxable revenue will spin off from those jobs, healthy communities of employed workers, and all the other businesses touched by the presence and spending power of those employees.

Yup. the linear thinking, silo dwelling, simpletons around here don't get it.

Further to your point, depending on the business and industry, the ancillary business spider web can be economically larger than the core business.

You keep saying over half of the jobs are still leaving.. Please be more specific... Carrier - Indiana, the plant where Trump is speaking? OR another plant in another state?

Carrier is spending $16 million to modernizing the plant. Less workers are needed. Crybaby sore losers are latching on to that because they hate it when Trump wins for us.
