Police in Switzerland are arming themselves with assault rifles to be better prepared in the event of a terrorist attack, according to reports.
Stefan Blättler, chief of Bern cantonal police, told Swiss-German TV program 10vor10 that his service had bought assault rifles for its police officers and that “several” other cantonal police services in the country were doing the same, reported news agencies on Wednesday. […]

This is the Swiss we are talking about. Shooting is the national sport over there. Nearly every home has a full auto rifle and a thousand rounds of ammo in it.
They practice blowing up their own bridges on the weekends. Swiss law states that ANY government official announcing a surrender is to be hunted down and killed.

The Swiss have always had a lot of guns and significant freedom. Machiavelli noted it in "The Prince" in 1517:

They must be sniper assault rifles.
This is hardly news. Assault weapons are everywhere in Switzerland. Civilian reserves have them handy. Of course the polizei do too.
