The selection of Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.) to become Health and Human Services secretary is testing President-elect Donald Trump's vow not to cut Medicare.
During the campaign, Trump said he stood out from other Republicans because he did not want to change the popular program.
"I'm not going to cut Social Security like every other Republican, and I'm not going to cut Medicare or Medicaid," Trump told the Daily Signal last year. His campaign promoted the article's headline -- "Why Donald Trump Won't Touch Your Entitlements" -- on its website.
But Price does want to touch entitlements.
He is a proponent of a plan, also backed by Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), to turn Medicare into a "premium support" system, which Democrats warn would end the program's traditional guarantee of government-provided coverage for seniors.
Now that Price is set to head HHS, major changes to Medicare as well as Medicaid could be on the agenda -- something Democrats fear would put big holes in the healthcare safety net.
Under a Medicare premium support system, seniors would get a set amount of money from the government to help them buy health insurance from a private insurance company, in contrast to the current government-run Medicare program.
Democrats say that because the whole idea of premium support is to save the government money, the government financial assistance would not keep up with rising healthcare costs over time, forcing more and more of the costs onto seniors.
They also suggest that costs could spiral out of control for the people remaining in the traditional Medicare program, which could remain an option, competing alongside private plans. Healthier people could be more likely to choose private plans, leaving the main program with sick people and higher costs.

The Hill can read Price’s mind apparently.
Once again our media trying to stir the pot and make a stink out of nothing. Trying to make us doubt Trump. Try again losers!
Why do they assume that Trump is going to allow his team to do whatever they want and not follow his lead. They work for him. This isn’t Zero’s administration where he just let them do whatever they wanted.
At 60, I am rapidly approaching retirement age. I have dreaded the thought that I would be FORCED to take Medicare - I prefer to have private insurance and WELCOME such a change.
Fake news
So ...
Paul Ryan has a plan,
and Tom Price has supported this plan in the past ...
Therefore ...
Trump is a flip-flopper?
Is this the media hand-wringer for the day?
CAN THE POOR GUY GET SWORN IN FIRST PLEASE!............... SHEESH!
Democrats have gotten so used to ignoring laws and just letting the administration and its officials rewrite rules to their liking, they forget that is not how it is supposed to work. Agree or disagree with Price’s views he cannot change Medicare on his own say so.
You know if Trump only accomplishes 10 % off what he says it will it’s still 100 % better than what Obama has done which is pretty much all destructive to the U.S. and apparently strategically put together by a madman giving him his marching orders...
Scare the old people.
I would like the so called GAO do an audit to see what the total cost per year is on an individual. They could then provide that amount of money on a yearly basis to the individual.
Funding to Domestic Programs Being Cut to Fund Illegal Immigrant Minors
Written by Raven Clabough
The Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) reports that the Department of Health and Human Services is cutting funding to domestic programs to pay for room and board for illegal alien youths. HHS must come up with $167 million to cover the costs to feed and shelter the unaccompanied minors through December 9 and has turned to other programs, including Medicare, for the money. And while the programs from which the money is being transferred are unconstitutional uses of taxpayer dollars, the move underscores that the American people are not this administration’s priority.

But Price does want to touch entitlements.
...
But Trump is his boss. Guess who will make the policy?
OH NO THAT’S IT I’M DONE WITH HIIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Trump should not move at all on Medicare and social security.
It will consume him in a losing battle.
I want a wall built, I want illegal immigration stopped, e-verify enacted, visa control perfected.
I want trade deals renegotiated.
I want a strong military and senseless wars brought to an end.
I want lower taxes and job creation.
I want education given back to localities.
I want ObamaCare repealed and replaced.
FORGET about Medicare and Social security. Get done what has been promised and don’t get distracted.
One thing you need to remember about Trump...he listens to people, he asks questions, and then he tells people what he wants...you want the position, you will do it Trump’s way...
The Hill wasn’t there, so how do they know that this guy said he would do away with entitlements? I didn’t hear the guy come out and say anything after the meeting with Trump...did you?
Trump ran on this platform, he said he wasn’t taking away the entitlement, and he wasn’t doing away with Medicare...and after all the ‘illegal aliens’ are gone from here and all that money from that fund and elsewhere that Barky has been stealing to feed them, house them, and give them healthcare (all things we have to pay for) there will be a lot of money to help the Social Security and Medicare fund...if your not with what Trump wants, you not there...that simple...
As long as Obamacare is around, you want to take Medicare.
Hmmmmm. Well, I did see a post yesterday on Mrs.rktmans facebook page where a mutual acquaintance was simply “aghast” that the HHS pick would even consider that women should “pay for their own abortions”. Uh, if they are getting one then damn straight bippy they should pay for it themselves. Or buy a damn condom. Hey, if I wasn’t involved, I ain’t willing to pay. Of course we’ll hear the same old song and dance about all the mammograms that pp provides blah, blah, blah. News flash. I don’t want to pay for those either.
