Police say the suspect likely didn't know what the bucket contained.

Oh, B.S. The truck says "Loomis" on the side of it. It's not transporting buckets of joint compound.

That bucket of flakes would have made a lot of $100 donuts.

Was it a “Rainbow” food truck with a pot of gold on the tailgate? (Inside job for certain)

Saw the videos. That was heavy bucket.

Yes, it was wrong, but I did have to laugh at the guy just walking off like that.

How can they know/believe “the suspect” went to Florida - without knowing who he is or following him there?

It doesn’t look like 86 pounds of anything heavy to me. Looks more like he is carrying a half-full 5 gallon bucket of paint at chest level. Maybe it was a setup with the can as a prop for an inside job. Hard to believe professional security would be that stupid.

And he didn't cover/disguise the bucket even though the article said it took him an entire hour to carry it to his van - which was normally a 10 minutes distance - through a “diamond district” with every business having extensive video surveillance.

The story does sound like a bucket of $#it.

I'm not kidding about the $100 donut. They make them here in Manhattan too. Real gold flakes are used so I assume they are edible. It's on my bucket list to have one. Maybe January 20th I'll splurge. That is going to be such a good day here in the city.

My wife might just divorce me if she finds out. Maybe I'll split it with her.

86 pounds of flake gold, a lot of hard work getting that out of the ground. Somewhere in the Klondike Tony Beets is cussing up a storm.

Yeah, I know watcha mean - not approving of thievery, but if this wasn’t an inside job, it is kinda funny. Guy walking along minding his own business, sees a bucket of gold, thinks early retirement, grabs the bucket and he’s on his way.
If he did a Homer Simpons-esqe whistle as he walked off with the bucket of gold, it’d be perfect.

The thief should move to Alaska, open up a claim, mine placer deposits and in three to four years declair that he found the mother load.

You gotta watch it not to get the references. But because it is a classic and it’s Bill Murray at his absolute best.
