250K would be just the first wave (roughly 2 standard Russian Armies), plus armor by the thousands. Any real invasion would see at least 4 standard Russian Armies - likely the bulk would be forced conscripts - thousands more armor and massed air campaigns as well as use of tactical nukes. Everyone would know because word would get out from inside Russia of mass conscripting.

It wouldn’t take million to hold it as use of nukes by both side would leave little population able to form a resistance.

Russian divisions, keeping with Red Army practice, are smaller than NATO divisions. A full strength Russian division has around 12,000 men. 55,000 men would represent 4.5 Russian divisions. That would constitute an army under the Red Army.
