The families of Sept. 11 victims are voicing their opposition to a proposed change to a new law that allows them to sue Saudi Arabia for its alleged backing of the attackers.
In a statement Wednesday, they say the adjustment would effectively gut the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act. Saudi Arabia, a critical U.S. ally in the Middle East, sought to prevent the law from being passed.
Republicans John McCain of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina say their measure is necessary to ensure lawsuits can only be brought against countries that knowingly engaged in the financing or sponsorship of terrorism.
But Terry Strada, national chair of a group representing Sept. 11 families, says the senators are trying to torpedo the law by pushing changes Saudi Arabia demanded.

Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest bribers/donors in Washington D.C. and one of the biggest sugar daddy special interests for John McCain and Lindsay Graham.
.
There was no way in hell any foreign government would be subject to civil lawsuits in U.S. courts, regardless of what this law said.
McCain & Graham once again fighting for the enemy.
.
You must be one of those that support the absurd idea of a “World Court.”
Of course foreign governments can be subject to a US court. If they wish to sell us their products, or their citizens wish to travel here.
Simple.
“Saudi Arabia is one of the biggest bribers/donors in Washington D.C. and one of the biggest sugar daddy special interests for John McCain and Lindsay Graham.”
Exactly.
How much money are you willing to pony up when the U.S. government is successfully sued in an Iraqi, Libyan, Syrian, or Egyptian court for $500 trillion?
That’s Saudi Owned McCain and Graham.
If the government of Saudi Arabia had anything to do with the 9/11 attacks, the country should have been obliterated from the map, not sued in a civil court.
It’s hard to blow up a country when you’re holding the hand of the king on your ranch in Texas.
.
So you believe that the citizens of a monarchist country should have to die for the clandestine actions of their masters?
Now that’s real justice!
.
Noe we know which Senators have received money from the Saudi princes.
My point is that a country that responds to an act of war by filing lawsuits in a civil court is a pathetic one, indeed. It takes a country run by lawyers to come up with a law as dumb as that one.
.
All that they have the power to extract from us (i.e. NONE.)
You really don’t understand these things, do you!
.
Oh, OK. So let’s go around the world suing everybody like a bunch of simpering fags.
.
>> “My point is that a country that responds to an act of war by filing lawsuits in a civil court is a pathetic one” <<
Fail!
It is a means of working through our own legal system to extract wealth from those that only understand wealth.
.
Then you really can’t object when they work through our own legal system to protect themselves using those who only understand wealth (i.e., buying Congressmen), right?
Sit on this until Trump can veto it
.
They’ve been doing it as long as I’ve been alive.
The bill at least allows some turnabout.
.
This is Trump’s problem and why he has to operate in the extreme. The Republicans will oppose him along with and taking their lead from the Democrats.
