Like many Americans, HGTV stars Chip and Joanna Gaines attend a church where the pastor thinks homosexual behavior is a sin.
And somehow that’s “news.”
BuzzFeed printed the original story, headlined “Chip And Joanna Gaines’ Church Is Firmly Against Same-Sex Marriage.” From there it was picked up by Cosmopolitan, Us Weekly, and my favorite, Jezebel.
Why?
Now to be clear, the Gaineses aren’t even quoted in the original BuzzFeed story. We have no idea what they personally think about same-sex marriage. In fact, a spokesperson for the Antioch Community Church where the Gaineses attend, specifically tells BuzzFeed “she could not speak for Chip and Joanna Gaines on same-sex marriage.”
So we don’t know for sure what the Gaineses’ beliefs are on same-sex marriage. (And incidentally, this attitude it’s news that something like a pastor at a Christian church preaching that same-sex marriage isn’t OK is exactly the kind of out-of-touchness that helped create a climate where Donald Trump could become president.) But here’s the clincher: The couple, whose popular HGTV show is called “Fixer Upper,” has fans that may not agree with their views on same-sex marriage!

Well, I should think so! THEY DON'T SPEAK APACHE!...........
Of course, as these two folks gain more and more attention in the media, the haters will (inevitably) turn their vitriol on the Gaines’ family.
Given that television is, by default, an imperfect medium for truth, I can’t help but admire these two, and the (apparently) wonderful children they are raising.
I viewed an online video of Chip at a Church assembly for men (gasp!) and he was engaging, insightful, and positive in his demeanor and in his message.
As always, though...the haters gonna hate.
Reminds me of a joke that Jackie Mason tells:
A Jewish businessman was in Beijing on the Sabbath.
He asked the concierge at the hotel if there was a synagogue nearby.
“Why, yes there is!” he said, “It’s just down the street about three blocks.”
So the businessman went down the street and found it just as he said.
He opened the door and to his surprise it was full of Chinese people!

It’s not your business, nor is it mine. I don’t care what they believe, nor what their church espouses. Neither should you.

Doesn’t matter what Church you attend or what your Pastor believes. If you believe in God and follow the Bible you think that homosexuality is a sin.
Joanna responded as follows in the Fixer Upper Season 1 Q&A on Magnolia’s (The Gaines’s business) website:

I love hearing all the guesses- Although I did play Pocahontas in high school, I am not Native American. My father is half Lebanese/half German and my mother is full Korean.
Lots of Creeks and Choctaws there with the Cherokees.

They get very confused when he tells them he has no Asian in him, even though he’s like six foot 11.

(This is a wonderful family show, real or not they share their off the chart talent, and their love of family life. I believe Joanna wears a cross at times and in addition, the home designs are incredible......(it is only natural that the left would attack these people)

Never heard of shiplap before watching that show but apparently almost ever older home in Waco has shiplap walls. Weird.
