“Get rid of the electoral college and only a few states matter. The remaining states will not. This is the road to civil war.”

Yes, that is what I told my 21 year-old son; his Canadian roommates don’t really understand our system.

I said, were it not for the electoral college, L.A., N.Y.C., Chicago and other big urban cities would be deciding who is president. People in the states where food, energy, etc. is produced would have no say.

Sadly, were it not for Chicago, my home state would probably be a red state. As an aside, it would be interesting to have some form of electoral college on a county level. People living in rural counties in states with huge cities would then have a say as well.

“Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.”

We are not fighting against mere humans.

Yes! I haven’t followed it closely, but I think the Dow has been going up since the election.

“These 5 counties comprise 319 square miles,”

As an illustration to what you wrote Guam is 212 square miles. So The PIAPS beat Trump in an area about 1.5 times larger than Guam.

So, they want to let the electors vote without consideration of the wishes of the populace, and, they want to eliminate the electors to enable the populace.

This doesn’t hurt them in their heads?

Thank you for that enlightening post, ManHunter, and for the perspective, Fai Mao.

Incredible!

And the people living in those 319 square miles depend on the hard work of the people living in the rest of the country for their food, etc. They couldn’t make it on their own.

Fantastic! This does feel like when Reagan was elected!

(and those Carrier employees will now have a Merry Christmas and be able to buy gifts under the tree, instead of waiting for unemployment checks!)

These Dims are vile, poisonous creeps, just like Jill Stein and the clintons themselves!!!!

That goes DOUBLE for Lawrence Lessig of Harvard Law School. I’m a Harvard alumnus myself, and between Jill Stink and Lawrence the Least, I’m not too proud of Harvard right now!!!!

These creeps set themselves up as judges of “fitness”, and believe that the Electors should vote for the candidate they deem to be fit—Hillary clinton!!!! Well, the American voters who picked these electors have judged otherwise.

What makes the creeps of the legal underworld more fit to judge “fitness”than the voters? And what makes the illegal and La Raza infested electorate of California more qualified to elect a President (via “popular vote”) than the Electors of the 30 states that voted for Trump?

EVERY State should have a law that binds their Electors to vote for the candidate selected by that State’s voters. PHOOEY!!!!

I agree with the lawyers who say the electors should not be forced to pick their state’s winning candidate. That clearly goes against the founders’ intent and turns the electors into mere figureheads.

In the past:

Republicans wanted the EC to stop a few lib areas from deciding elections, and Dems wanted it to be majority rules.

The present:

The only people that should count are the 538 people that vote in the electoral college.

What could be more fair than that? /s

But if the EC voters are meant to represent their state, shouldn’t that be the “popular vote” in their state only?

Would that change any states?

The electoral college may be intended “to confirm or not” the people’s choice,” but this professor doesn’t seem to understand that the electoral college is not intended to confirm illegal aliens’ choice.

I can’t believe that someone who states he wants to get rid of the electoral college is described as a “legal scholar.”

Ray v. Blair, 343 U.S. 214 (1952), is a major decision of the Supreme Court of the United States. It was a case on state political parties requiring of presidential electors to pledge to vote for the party's nominees before being certified as electors. It ruled that it is constitutional for states to allow parties to require such a pledge of their candidates for elector, and that it was not a breach of otherwise qualified candidates' rights to be denied this position if they refused the pledge. However, the violation of any pledge a faithless elector made was not at issue. It officially defined state electors as representatives of their respective states, not the federal government. The case was argued on March 31, 1952 and decided on April 3, 1952. (emphasis mine)
