A roaring 500-acre fire is threatening structures in downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee, where officials have ordered mandatory evacuations. Roads near Great Smoky Mountains National Park are closed, as firefighters battle the flames and gusty winds. There have been no fatalities so far, but three burn victims are in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, the Tennessean reported. Officials suspect arson in the fire, which started over the weekend.
More than 100 structures have been destroyed by the massive fire, including the home of Gatlinburg Mayor Mike Werner.

The article says “officials” suspect arson, but provides no names of officials or direct quotes.
It very well might be arson, and Mohammedan SandMonkeys could be to blame. However, nobody should be citing “news” from Russia Today (rt.com), a propaganda arm of the Putin kleptocracy.
Yes, unlikely to come from Left wing U.S. media sources, but there are enough conservative outlets to chase down the real story.

That’s actually how I found out about these fires. A local TV station posted an article too, minutes later, but missed it on their 10 pm newscast, I believe. (We are in the “mid-south”.) UK Daily Mail had a huge article early the (our) next morning.

I am here in Knoxville. I remember Obama not allowing states of emergency in the past, to punish Americans who didn’t vote for him. Many people have lost homes. Basically Gatlinburg is gone. Animals, people, families are in shelters while everyone is doorbuster shopping.
Gatlinburg is a tourist town and virtually all revenue comes from that. People were evac’d in the late Monday night with whatever they could grab. There are at least two missing children.
I honestly can’t see the point in an ISIS supporter burning down Gatlinburg. More likely to be a blm supporter, since that is their mo. Gatlinburg is pretty white.

It’s a question of _where_ that 500 acres is. Gatlinburg is a really nice small mountain city.

I hope so; I love Tennessee. I also hope California is never attacked by systematic arson. That would be a disaster (self-inflicted but still a disaster).

Looks like the rain came too late to avert it but may help stop the fires - stretches from the Gulf Coast up beyond the fires and has some decent”severe” components. Praying they get a lot of water falling on them soon.
I just tried typing “Gatlinburg” into the FR search and got 8 results. But... I agree the search is flaky. Sometimes I’ve typed in what would seem to be very obvious search terms and not turned up anything (or anything useful) — then found articles by scrolling down through the forum a couple pages or more.
BTW, I’ve been looking for a detailed map showing the fire / burned areas, online - not much luck. Weather.com has a good article posted, but I’d warn all that many of the pics at the end (56 at present) are heartbreaking...

Dumbo hasn’t said a word, our RINO gov was on the tube mouthing platitudes, no real help.
1 double amputee in a motorized wheel chair, was not notified of the evacuation. He rode the chair down the smoke/fire filled area of his home, until a good Samaritan stopped and picked him up before his chair battery died and he’d of died too.
My sis, husband and niece all lost their jobs as the Resort they worked at Westgate burned to the ground. He has MD both are nearing 60. Fire came close to their home on the mountain side. Niece can see the fires from her house on the side of the mountain.
They tiny news story said Dollywood and that very expensive Aquarium were not torched after all. But it will be some time before they can get to the Aquarium..who is going to feed all those fish or sea creatures? They will just starve or eat each other. LOL All because of DUMBO’s EPA regs and maybe some muzzy arsonist like in Israel.
Thank GOD for HIS fire hose called RAIN to help put out some of the fires.
We just need the Lame Duck RINO Gov gone, and we don’t get the RINO Corker as the next gov.
Legislature is GOP controlled. We have no state income tax, just sales tax, and must balance the budget each year. If not for Fed crap we’d do a lot better. We even have a decent Rainy Day Fund.
Only flaw is the lack of use of the Death Penalty we have at least 100 on DR and many have exhausted all appeals. And RINO halsam won’t sign the death warrants.
500 acres isn’t huge as fires go.

Sounds like they were lucky... It’s one helluva terror weapon though... November is pretty dry and in mountain/hill country a fire in a valley can climb quickly and spread with wind.
