Dutch MPs on Tuesday voted overwhelmingly to ban the Islamic full-face burka from some public places such as schools and hospitals, the latest such move in a European country.
"The law is adopted," said the speaker of the lower house of parliament, Khadija Arib, referring to legislation which will also ban burkas, and face coverings just with eye-slits, from public transport.
The motion "to ban all clothing which completely covers the face" from government buildings was approved by 132 members in the 150-seat house, including Prime Minister Mark Rutte's ruling Liberal-Labour coalition.
The legislation must now go before the Senate for approval before becoming law. It follows similar bans imposed in France and Belgium, and comes amid rising tensions in Europe with Islamic communities.
The Dutch cabinet had approved the plan in mid-2015, but decided not to go as far as banning wearing burkas on the streets.

I decided the transgender bathrooms laws would fall apart after about the umpty umpth sexual assault by a burka and veiled clad man. How would we ever know, anyway?
I cannot imagine how horrible it is now to police an area with burka and veiled people...how would you know anything...they could have any weapon hanging from their hips, and any number of dynamite sticks timed ...
Excellent ruling. We need many rulings here...I’d be glad to serve on such a committee to hash out what we need and what controls we need to assure our non-Muslim safety.
You will notice how nicely we protect their basic rights?
A friend sent me a notice that Andre Carson, a Muslim who converted from the Baptist Church, is now on the House Intelligence Committee. He is from Indiana. Furthermore he is not unfamiliar with the intelligence community. I hope he does well for everyone who has the interests of the USA at heart.
