[Flashback] The Real Elaine Chao (Fire Walk Enter Demon)
WND ^ | 7/16/2001 | Timothy Gallaher

In early July of 2000, the Chinese language newspaper Sing Tao published a five-part feature on Elaine Chao, who has since become secretary of labor. The articles covered a number of issues including Chao’s views on China and U.S.-China relations.

Among her comments were that she “in no way” agrees with the Cox Report, that the U.S. media and Hollywood demonize China, that it is unfortunate the Republican Party has Christian and religious critics of China and that China should understand it is in a public relations war and should improve its PR by cultivating contacts with Congress and journalists.

Chao also discussed differences between Democrat and Republican China policies. Chao stated that, if elected, G.W. Bush’s China policies would be identical to the senior Bush’s China policies and contended a new Bush administration would be advantageous to U.S.-China relations.

She voiced her support for the Clinton administration’s policies of constructive engagement and strategic partnership with China and criticized Clinton for not being able to see the policies through in the wake of the campaign-finance scandals and the Cox Report.

“I’m not jumping up and down about a couple of his picks, but overall, it’s not bad so far.”

Same for me.

It’s not exactly Drain the Swamp, is it.

I'd never vote for Hillary so I'll never regret my vote, but Trump is making huge, huge, huge mistakes right now. He still believes in the "goodness" of people if given a chance, to bad he's going to learn this is wrong thinking on our dime. I'm sensing more Rino's than movers and shakers so I'm not expecting much out of Trump anymore ..

She is practically a Chicom lobbyist. I remember she said(bragged?) that her father and former Chinese President Jiang Zemin went to the same college and basically call him "uncle."

If she stays quiet on the sideline, it may be fine. But I am not optimistic. She would get in the way of implementing tough policy on China. I just found this factoid from Wikipedia entry on Elaine Chao.

Before a 1999 House panel during the 1996 United States campaign finance controversy, John Huang testified that Chao had asked him to give money to her husband, Mitch McConnell, and that his Indonesian employer illegally reimbursed him for $2,000 he ultimately gave to McConnell's 1990 campaign. Huang later repeated the assertion in testimony in a federal suit, in which he pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws in funneling $100,000 in illegal donations to President Bill Clinton's 1996 re-election campaign.

It would have been better if Trump looked for other Chinese Americans who backed him enthusiastically or at least those who are known to keep their distance from Chinese regime.

THIS IS HOW you will know if Choa is BAD NEWS! See if the Left & media just let her sail through with no protest/vetting/character assasination....just watch and see. If they do, she’s one of them. She has no particular loyalty to the USA that I’ve seen.

It is troubling that she has direct connection to Senate leadership, her husband Mitch McConnell. She is in a perfect position to undermine any legislation against China, especially if it is indeed true that she was instrumental in propelling Mitch's political career. That means that he owes her a lot and she has more than enough leverage on him. She can do that by merely being a wife to a senator. Now she is given a better opportunity in which she can work inside Trump administration to reshape his China policy.

Trump is a deal maker and his goal is to tie the hands of his potential opponents by putting some of them inside the tent.

Too bad Castro is dead, he would have been a good addition to the Tent.

Excerpts:

"Chao criticized the prosecution of Huang in the Chinagate scandal as racially motivated."

"But there’s much, much more."

"When she served the conservative Heritage Foundation as Asian studies adviser, a military analyst who sounded warnings about Chinese threats to U.S. security was shown the door, WND reported at the time."

"Does anyone even remember Chinagate? WND reported back in 2001 that a review of financial assets held by Chao and her husband, McConnell, reveals she has served as a director of an insurance company that jointly owns a Lippo Group subsidiary with the Chinese government. Indonesia-based Lippo is controlled by the Riady family and was at the center of the Clinton Chinagate fundraising scandal."

"Lippo chief executive James T. Riady agreed to plead guilty to a felony charge of defrauding the U.S. government by funneling donations to the campaign of Bill Clinton – and others."

"Senate financial-disclosure records show that Chao held a seat on the board of Protective Life Corp., which owns 50 percent of CRC Protective Life Insurance. Lippo co-owns the rest of the Hong Kong-based unit with China Resources Holdings Co., an intelligence-gathering front company for China’s People’s Liberation Army."

“The former Chinese Communist Party boss Jiang Zemin is a close family friend of Elaine Chao’s, and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao has praised her father for building up China’s industry. (Shipping to and from China is the Chao family business.) Lest we forget, Jiang Zemin is the hardliner who took power following the Tienanmen Square massacre and is notorious for repressing religious minorities and Tibetans. Jiang’s been indicted for genocide and is fighting to hold on to his corrupt fiefdom in Shanghai. Some friend.”

So what has Chao been up to more recently?

Chao served on the board of directors of Bloomberg Philanthropies, the foundation started by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, another anti-Trumper who flirted with the notion of running a third-party candidacy against him. Bloomberg gives the Sierra Club’s “Beyond Coal” campaign $50 million a year. The objective? To end the country’s reliance on “dirty coal, plant-by-plant, community-by-community, state-by-state.” Trump promised to put the coal miners back to work.

Chao has also served on the board of Wells Fargo, which has bankrolled anti-coal efforts. Ironic since McConnell’s home state is Kentucky – coal country.

Chao was selected by Bush to head the Labor Department after his first choice, Linda Chavez, withdrew from consideration over charges she harbored an illegal alien in 1992. Chao, 63, a Taiwanese immigrant, has also served as chairwoman of the Federal Maritime Commission. She became director of the Peace Corps in 1991 and led the United Way of America from 1992-1996.

One thing is for certain: She won’t have any trouble getting Senate confirmation. Even her husband says he won’t abstain from voting for her."

I agree with your thoughts on this chao. I don't trust her. I wonder if Trump knows about chao's chinagate background?
