President-elect Trump will hold a second meeting with Mitt Romney this week to discuss the position of secretary of state, much to the chagrin of some in his circle who have said Romney is undeserving of the top diplomatic post.

Imagine if Trump had to fire Romney as SoS (which IMO would be inevitable). It would be an ugly affair that would have repercussions around the world. Best for Trump to avoid that kind of unnecessary drama and political damage.

Maybe Trump is setting up his first chance to say “You’re fired!”.

Can you think of anyone Trump would enjoy saying “You’re fired.” to more than Romney?

Maybe the meeting will go something like this(hopefully):

We`d like to thamk you for your interest in our Secretary of State opening. Unfortunately we`ve decided to go in a different direction. We will keep your name on file and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

I think Trump can handle him.

`Trump gave the green light to blast away at Romney`

Excellent point. That, probably more than anything else gives us the best indication available of where Trump`s head is on this.

George Romney, Mitten’s daddy, didn’t know his place in the Nixon administration and was removed from his cabinet post. You know what they say: Like father, like son.

Why take the chance? Trump has much more important things to do than deal with a renegade in his cabinet. There’s just no need to open that door.

I'm not too worried about it. Romney is smart as a tack, articulate, and stately. I don't agree with things he has said or done, but we're talking about Secretary of State, not the presidency.

Beyond that - Trump got into nasty fights with: get ready for this:

Perry

Christie

Gingrich

Fiorina

Carson

Rubio

Cruz

Paul

And others.

Many from the above list are currently serving as advisors or potential hires.

Advisors are OK. But the Secretary of State is the TOP cabinet position (at least most people think so). If Romney should go off the reservation, which is likely to happen in my opinion, Trump will have to remove him. This becomes not just a political issue for him, it also becomes an international one. Replacing the SoS is a big deal for obvious reasons.

Why do things that have an unfavorable risk/reward ratio when you can easily avoid it?

“No. Please no. Nothing good can come from it.”

I’ll bet he’s apologizing...telling Romney that he’s sorry that he can’t give him the position.

>Freaking out over nothing is what teenagers do.

Listening to and understanding the romney words from his mouth is what adults do. You can not redeem stupid.

Romney would make a good secretary of commerce. I think his father held the same position. Romney would be good at enabling news small businesses to be formed. that was his role at bain capital.

The problem with the transition period is that you don’t ever hear from Trump. During the campaign you could always listen to Trump to know what is actually going on. At this point we’re left with the idiots who thought Hillary was going to win Texas telling us what’s going on so it’s hard to decipher what’s actually going on. We don’t know Trump’s thought process, we don’t know what he’s been saying so we won’t know what’s what until the decision is made. I can say one thing, if you listen to MSDNC you get one story, CNN another and Fox another. That tells me that it’s all disinformation and depending on who your contacts are is the story you get. MSDNC has more liberal type contacts so they push Romney, Fox has more Conservative contacts so they push Anti-Romney and CNN doesn’t have any real contacts so they just make things up.

It’s true, I have trusted Trump’s judgement over the last year and a half and he has generally seemed to be on the side of the people. You have to understand though, the last time we saw Mitt he was trying to make Trump lose Utah in the general election after calling him a fraud, a phony and a con man (I suppose he was conning us). People are of course mad that such a man, who doesn’t even agree with Trump on foreign policy, be elevated above all those who took bullets for him. Loyalty should count for something and as Rush and Kellyanne said, the price of party unity shouldn’t be SOS. Period.

Another point, people have trusted politicians enough to vote for them and they ALWAYS shape shift once elected. You can forgive people for being worried that Trump could turn out to be just an other politician. That would be hurtful to most people

Not good enough. If he feels the need to say that then that is all the proof you need that he’s not the right man for the job

Might have to do that in the Senate but Mittens probably would have ever Republicans support and probably a lot of Dems so...

All of the above list were running against Trump. Completely different. None of the above list actively tried to make Trump lose a Republican state in the general election. Everyone of the above list would show that Trump can get passed bitterness and would make a better SOS in a Trump administration that Romney. Does anyone really begrudge Cruz for fighting back? Nope, it’s completely different.

If Rush is right....this whole episode is a brilliant ploy by Trump:

Today’s transcript:

“That’s what we’re being told that Trump says privately about Romney. I, for one, don’t believe that. He may be saying it, but that’s not why he would pick him to be secretary of state. If you examine the way all of this has gone down, and if you know Donald Trump like I do, Mitt Romney... People have forgotten, Romney went out in the very early stages of this campaign and savaged Trump in a way that was so sincere and deeply felt that it, to me, seems impossible that Romney could even apologize and mean it for what he had said.

There was no doubt that he doesn’t think or didn’t think Donald Trump should be within a thousand feet of the White House. But now the talk about, “Well, he might issue an apology,” or, “The Trump camp is demanding an apology.” I have a thought about what this all is, but, sadly, I just now glanced at the clock, and I’ll have to wait to share my thought with this on this. I don’t think, to answer your question, that the pick ought to have anything to do with showing up the Republicans or anybody else anything.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Kellyanne Conway, Trump campaign manager, is savaging Mitt Romney, just savaging him. The question everybody’s asking: Has she gone rogue or is she doing this at the direction of Donald Trump?

[SNIP]

That was the original theory and that Kellyanne was part of it, that she had been sent out to take the place of Trump describing how much opposition Romney was getting. ‘Cause Romney’s name had been floated, and seriously. Romney’s name, Rudy’s name, the impression was that Trump was seriously considering both. And the New York Post had a story over the weekend that Trump, while down here at his club, Mar-a-Lago, on Thanksgiving Day, was going table to table asking club members, who do you think I should pick, Romney or Giuliani? That Trump was asking everybody he ran into. That was the story in the New York Times.

Then Kellyanne Conway ups her tweeting and makes it even more abundantly clear that not only does she not want Romney, but nobody she knows wants Romney. The next thing to hit was that Trump was supposedly furious about this, that she’s gone rogue, that Trump is not behind this. That he doesn’t want this handled this way and in fact does have another meeting scheduled with Romney tomorrow. He also has a meeting this week with David Petraeus, who is also in line for the same gig, secretary of state...”

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2016/11/28/there_s_only_one_reason_to_pick_a_secretary_of_state

This whole campaign has been one big reality show....and several *spin-off* shows like the Stein recount and voter fraud, pizzagate, etc. The outcomes remain to be seen.
