Want democracy? Enact laws guaranteeing the presidency to whomever receives the most popular votes in all 50 states.
A number of states have enacted this law -- directing electors to vote for the popular voter winner, once enough states promise to do the same to constitute 270 electoral votes.
I doubt they will ever reach the 270 vote threshold. But, I expect it will fall apart when the electors will have to cast their votes for a Republican.
Although one can make the case that states can select their electors however they want, this will result in the mother of all voter disenfranchisement lawsuits, and it will quickly be struck down.
If they cast their votes for a Democrat, it's likely to not make a difference, as every state currently enacting the law is a safe blue state:

We already got that, and it works great.
All 50 states choose electors based on popular vote in their state.
Now, if what she meant was a national popular vote, then the president would not be a POTUS, but a POSON - President of Some Other Nation.
