You're right, I was just showing off that I remembered that show (not many will, for the reasons you cited). However mentioning it wasn't just an ego trip. The reason I remember it was because when they announced it I had three reactions: (1) oh no, the odd couple with a dopey "hip" gimick that won't work (2) But Ron Glass is in it, he's great! Maybe it will work! (3) oh no, it's also got Lamont from Sanford and Son, his acting is more wooden than a cigar store indian. This show's gonna suck.

Ron Glass was the only reason I gave it a chance, but my instincts proved right (no fault of Mr. Glass). RIP, Ron Glass.

You and I are among the few people that watched this show. I wanted to like it, and thought Ron Glass was a good choice to play Felix. After seeing two or three episodes, however, I knew the program would never make it. There is now another version of "The Odd Couple" on CBS starring Matthew Perry as Oscar and Thomas Lennon as Felix. I started watching this show expecting to hate it, but it's actually quite good. Thomas Lennon is excellent as Felix, doing justice to Tony Randall's legacy in the role. They kept just enough aspects of the original TV version without being a carbon copy of the Tony Randall/Jack Klugman show. They've also introduced new supporting characters which work well with the premise.
