Historic recount will have to move quickly (WI)
Journal-Sentinel ^ | 11/25/16 | Patrick Marley and Bill Glauber

Wisconsin will begin a historic presidential recount next week and the state could risk losing its ability to have its 10 electoral votes counted if it doesn't meet key deadlines next month.

Hitting a Dec. 13 deadline could be particularly tricky if Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein is able to force the recount to be conducted by hand, Wisconsin's top election official said.

Stein and independent presidential candidate Roque "Rocky" De La Fuente separately filed recount requests late Friday, the last day they were able to do so. Stein received about 30,000 votes and De La Fuente about 1,500 out of 3 million cast.

One or both of them will have to pay for the recount because they lost by more than 0.25%. The cost could top $1 million.

Stein is also planning to ask for recounts in Michigan and Pennsylvania, which have deadlines next week. She has raised $5 million for the recounts in recent days — more than she raised during her campaign leading up to the Nov. 8 election.

Wisconsin's recount will likely begin late next week, once the state has tallied a cost estimate and received payment from Stein's campaign, said Michael Haas, administrator of the Wisconsin Elections Commission. Recounts will be done by county boards of canvassers, which will likely have to work nights and weekends, Haas said.

The push for a recount came as liberals raised fears about hacked voting machines. Election officials and experts say they are unaware of any problems with Wisconsin's vote tally.

Republican Donald Trump edged out Democrat Hillary Clinton by some 27,000 votes in Wisconsin, becoming the first GOP presidential candidate to win the state since 1984.

“This has stench of Clinton all over it.”

That’s why the Clinton camp is not speaking about it and why she has been seen 3 times with no makeup, little miss homemaker, to show that she is not involved. The Clintons don’t move without a gameplan.

Is this true? If so, it would mean recount enough states, and DJT would lose out on those delegates if the recount isn't finished? That would be one way for Hillary to win the election, eliminate the ability for recounting states to lose electoral votes.

The exact phrasing:

The person having the greatest Number of votes for President, shall be the President, if such number be a majority of the whole number of Electors appointed

If the state is recounting, they can’t appoint electors. So 270 - 10

The deadline for Wisconsin was today. the deadline for filing a recount in PA and MI is early next week. WI does not matter unless they also plan to file in PA and Mi because Clinton winning all three is the only way she could win.

The Constitution states: The Person having the greatest Number of Votes shall be the President, if such Number be a Majority of the whole Number of Electors appointed;

My question is if a state in recount does not finish and the electors are not going to vote would they even be considered "appointed"? So would the number 270 be valid?

>>> 27,000 votes are A LOT of votes to just “find.”

> Not if they can use the car that Al Franken used in his Senate win.

Franken was trailing by a mere 215 votes on Election Day.

Plus that was in Minnesota. 27,000 votes is a totally different situation.

clearly they are not appointed, since the winning candidate selects electors from his or her slate of such (state party officials etc). They only get appointed after the victory is known, because the slate of electors is from one party or the other.

And so, if count is not complete, there is no appointment yet.

From the story:
“the state could risk losing its ability to have its 10 electoral votes counted if it doesn’t meet key deadlines next month.”

This might be their key goal ... do the recount and then delay it so it is not complete and then have the state’s Electoral votes not be counted.

Then do the same for Michigan and Penn (and they might do it for one other for good measure) and wa-la Hitlery wins?

No one FR should make light of this threat to our Free Election process. There is a chance Trump can loose, and the Libs will make sure once they can get the recount process started, they will get the result they want.

The extra money goes in the pockets of the green party of course. Just a big cash grab by greedy politicians looking to buy another beach house.

Has anyone asked Stein why she is calling for the recount?

pepsi_junkie wrote: “So their game is to have Stein ask for hand recounts in WI, PA, MI but late so they will be hard to be completed in time and thus won’t be able to give their votes to Trump at the appropriate time? That, as I recall, 46 EVs (MI = 16, PA = 20, WI = 10) which would drop Trump to 260.”

Which doesn’t matter. The 12th amendment states the president will be the one who wins the majority of appointed electors. If Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan don’t appoint any electors, then there only 496 appointed electors and Trump still wins by 260 to 233.

Her reason stated was to ensure the integrity of the voting process.

Are there any states Trump lost where they control the legislature? Virginia? MInnesota House? NEw Hampshire? MAine?

Hmmm I wonder why she has no interest in recounting states that Clintoon won by narrow margins...

Trump’s attorney general needs to look into this and prosecute the perps once the theft attempt fails and President Trump takes office. this is nothing short of a coup attempt.

So if the electoral votes don’t count, and Wisconsin is worth 10 EV’s, then 1/2 plus 1 is now 265, not 270. Does the applicable law say the winning candidate needs 270, or 1/2 plus 1?
