Report: Trump team wants Romney to apologize
The Hill ^ | 11/25/2016 | HARPER NEIDIG

Fox News is reporting that Donald Trump’s transition team wants Mitt Romney to publicly apologize for railing against the president-elect during the campaign.

A transition official told Fox’s Ed Henry that some in Trump’s inner circle want the former Massachusetts governor to apologize in order to be seriously considered for the secretary of State.

Trump is reportedly considering whether to pick Romney or former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani for the coveted cabinet position.

Giuliani is the preferred choice of Trump’s loyalists and grassroots supporters, while Romney is a favorite of establishment conservatives.

“It’s not about that I don’t care for Mitt personally, but I’m still very unhappy that Mitt did everything he could to derail Donald Trump,” said Trump supporter Mike Huckabee in a Fox interview on Wednesday.

“There’s only one way that I think Mitt Romney could even be considered for a post like that and that is he goes to a microphone in a very public place and repudiates everything he said in that famous Salt Lake City speech, and everything he said after that,” Huckabee said, referring to a famous anti-Trump speech Romney gave in March.

"What the HELL us wrong with TRUMP?!!! Rudy has been so loyal to TRUMP & he wants the SOS job so bad so WTF is Romney in the running too???"

Do you have any proof that Rudy really wants that job? Also, I'd rather see Rudy as Director of the FBI. Think what he and Sessions (AG) could do to re-instate the "rule of law" which was once the norm for America.

I don’t believe anything in the state controlled media anymore.

If Trump is considering Romney for SoS, fine.

Wouldn’t be my choice.

However, Mr. Trump has shown his intelligence in selecting cabinet members.

"He can apologize. Great. BUT NO SPOT FOR HIM IN THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION. "

I agree. Go away, POS, has been Romney!

Could not agree with you more. Shows me that opportunity above principle is more on the Mitt’s mind that anything else. If he was truly as abhorred by a Trump candidacy (con man? fake? etc.) as he “trumped” throughout the election cycle, then why now lower his own “principled standard” to garner a spot in this administration.

Go home, Mitt! Game over, man!

“Trump team wants Romney to apologize”
___________________________________________

That’s like requesting Lucifer to apologize....would it be sincere? HELL NO, it wouldn’t. Just like Satan, Romney will do or say anything to get what he wants!

If Trump lets Romney off the hook for all the chaos he caused then I will second guess his judgement on Putin as well. If Romney can bamboozle Trump into trusting him, I’m afraid others will be able to do the same.

Like I said before, I will trust Trump’s judgement as long as he governs by the “will of the people”....that got him elected. IMO, conservatives want no part of Romney anywhere in Trump’s administration!

We have the greatest victory in 36 years and this buttwipe did NOTHING to make it happen.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

A lot of people “said” stuff against Trump, as awful as that was. Romney not only went after Trump politically and personally, he DID stuff .... had meetings with NeverTrumpers to plan keeping Trump from the nomination, got Evan Whats-his-face to run to try to take Utah away from Trump .... he was ACTIVELY opposing Trump at every turn in word & deed. No position for Romney in the Trump administration would be my position - if Romney wants to “make nice” and shake hands, then Trump is the bigger man to allow/accept that, but he does not need a backstabbing “loser” (couldn’t stand up to Candy Crowley/Obama in that debate ... I lost any respect I had for him then) in his administration. Trump’s presidency will be hard enough as it is.

At Thanksgiving yesterday, there were two non-Trump folks who stayed quiet - the rest of us talked in small groups (& had a few quiet Trump toasts). The ONE thing that came up every time and we were all in agreement about was NO Romney. Period.

I agree with that. Romney probably sent a congratulations
note to Trump which included a slight mea culpa which
opened the door to a dialog.

It doesn’t matter too much to me if Trump chooses Mitt
for any job in his administration. That would demonstrate
strength, not weakness. Some FReeper FRiends should
reconsider their vengeful attitudes. After all, none of
us know the complete picture of what goes on behind the
scenes. And, sometimes the temptation to portray oneself
as the biggest hard ass in FReeper Nation is more about
show than substance.

In which case Romney will be proving he's a liar; he was either lying then, or he'll be lying now, if he goes through with this repudiation. Clever Trump. I can't believe Trump would seriously consider Romney for any position in his administration.

I will go Huckabee one further. After they worked hard to subject us to four years of rule under the boot of Hillary Clinton, there is really nothing that Romney or the Bushes can ever do to convince me that they are fit for public office. There is no apology sufficient at this point to ever redeem themselves. With time and loyalty to prove their good faith, lesser traitors may earn a modicum of forgiveness, but Romney and the Bushes are done.

Agreed. Lots of keyboard warriors.

In the end, Trump will use (or not use) Romney to further the new Administration. If that means Romney, so be it. The war is over in the Republican party. Trump won, and now its reconstruction to position itself to fight the real enemies: domestic liberalism and the external gathering enemies. 4 years isn't going to do it- Trump needs 8 years and Romney can probably assist in that. Or not.

The president-elect's judgment has won up to this point, against all odds. Let him eat.

ditto

Let him apologize

BUT NO CABINET POSITION from which to build an alternative political power base to Trump

What a betrayal and what a dumb idea- it strains credulity to think of Mitt being a loyal servant and team player in Trump’s administration

Besides the Ken-Doll wuss couldn’t even face down obama, so how is he going to deal with hostile and aggressive would powers?

We knew Romney was a snake before Trump took him in

This post is meant straight for Trump. If you bring in Mittens as Secretary of State after he savaged you over and over in public it just makes you look like a P U N K - A S S B I T C H.

Fake news.

Romney can back whoever he wants in the primaries and there should be no Trump retribution. Romney acted contrary to Trump’s best interests in the general election, but the media hyped it far beyond reality.

I like Giuliani or Patreaus for Sec of State over Romney, but I am not opposed to Romney for SoS. It would be a brilliant move on Trump’s part to coopt a significant adversary and to innoculate himself against what will be relentless opposition from the media.

It is odd ... American Muslims are aghast at a Trump presidency, but the heads of state of Egypt, Saudi, and Jordan have come out as THRILLED. American Jews overwhelmingly supported Clinton, but Netanyahu and most Israelis are THRILLED to have Clinton gone and Trump now in the mix. The Russians, the Brexit Brits, ... all THRILLED.

This is such a crucial appointment because of the huge, huge, huge upside in terms of foreign policy. I am much more bullish on Romney than others here, and more forgiving. Objectively, Romney is hyper competent. I believe Trump senses this and understands the huge opportunity. If Romney ends up being edged out for SoState, I predict that he will be on the short list for Secretary of the Treasury, which all along I have thought would be the perfect place for him.

I strongly favor Trump coopting the establishment Republicans, and who better than Romney to coopt.

but Romney and the Bushes are done

Yup. They were never anything but small time grifters anyway.

This time they ran into the buzz saw of a real achiever. And they tried to dump him with treachery.

Nothing but low life vipers who need banishing.

Its called a coallition of power. The europeans do it with opposition all the time. If Trump feels Romney has some untapped power or persuation of type...then he gets the job. Its not about personal feelings at this point.

If an apology gets him the post, that is worse than no apology and no post.

Trump needs to just pick someone else whom he can trust and who doesn’t back the standard GOPe neocon agenda—and be done with it. He already has Reince and Ivanka pulling to the uniparty left and Romney would be wrong on so many levels.
