Way back in the 70s I had a college class which, on a particular day, almost all of the class skipped. I forget what the occasion was, but the absence of so many students was predictable.

The professor showed up with a special lecture. He began it, something like this: “I have a new topic. It’s not in your books. It won’t be mentioned in any other class. And it WILL be on your final. I will teach you today how to answer this question. People here today now stand an excellent chance of getting an A in the class. People who are not here stand almost no chance of getting an A. And let me remind you that I grade on a curve, so if you were to help someone who did not attend today, you will likely be hurting yourself. Be smart: Don’t share your notes. Now, let’s begin ...”

I had a class win 1972 where a very special event was occurring in the city and a few students had event tickets and asked the professor if they could be excused from class to attend. she said absolutely not and if they missed the test On that it could not be made up.

DAy came and the professor did not show up for class because SHE managed to get a ticket! One angry set of students!

I had a political science professor who on the first day of class told us that we all were starting out with an F and that we had to work our way up from there.

I had a college class...I was a freshman. Can’t remember the class, but it was in 1975. The vast majority of the class cut class to go home (next day was Thanksgiving). I think out of a class of 100, only about three of us showed up for class on Wednesday.

The prof went ahead and conducted the lecture. But the following Monday announced that of those who attended lecture on Wednesday received an A and for those who cut his class early were required to outline the entire text book and it was due that next Monday—or fail the class.

I learned early on not to cut classes! LOL
