Q+A
Q: What are 5 things we might not know about you?
Im a grandmother! My husband (Dick) and I have four children and five grandchildren.
I was born and raised in Michigan. Born in Holland, MI, Ive been a lifelong resident of Michigan.
Im an advocate for children. Ive been involved with education issues for 28 years. Ive been on the front lines fighting to make education better for all children.
Im an activist. Im a total outsider to elective office and government, but Im no stranger to the political process. A citizen volunteer, I have served in local, state, and national offices.
Im an entrepreneur. I have started new and innovative companies that help make our community better.
Q: Theres been a lot of talk about Common Core. Can you provide some straight talk on this topic?
Certainly. I am not a supporterperiod.
I do support high standards, strong accountability, and local control. When Governors such as John Engler, Mike Huckabee, and Mike Pence were driving the conversation on voluntary high standards driven by local voices, it all made sense.
Have organizations that I have been a part of supported Common Core? Of course. But thats not my position. Sometimes its not just students who need to do their homework.
However, along the way, it got turned into a federalized boondoggle.
Above all, I believe every child, no matter their zip code or their parents jobs, deserves access to a quality education.
Q: What are your thoughts about specific education policies?
I am very excited to get to work and to talk about my thoughts and ideas on making American education great again. The status quo is not acceptable. I am committed to transforming our education system into the best in the world.

I think that having some sort of “common core” is a good thing for all Americans. But it should not be done at the expense of freedom, good education for the kids, and the undermining of sovereignty for the state, local, and family levels of government.
Records matter, well to the dwindling handful of us. Let me guess.. she evolved. This trump cab is turning into a GOP-e love fest.
Well, I guess that's that, huh? You've got to be kidding.
After 24 straight years of double-Term Globalist Assholes for president, we finally rise up as one and elect Trump to the Oval, and you're ready to go "Full Retard" over his DOE pick?
I guess California really is totally f____d.
Actually I'm a Soul Stallion. Har!
MATE. Not mare. Damn spellcheck. Sorry, but lol.
“BARF!! Sounds like any Shrillary speech. “
Agree. We can read her bio ourselves.
“All I want to hear is “Trump hired me to put this department out of business.”
I’d like to hear that too, but I would settle for “we will not inject the federal government into private schooling and homeschooling”. Also, I’d love her to announce her personal support for an exodus from government schooling, which is a lost cause and has been for decades.
Erik Princes’ sister. Interesting.
Nice.
Y’know...when that’s the best response you’ve got to a reasonable consideration of possible explanations of a given situation; your “’Cuz Murica, man!!” flat-headed reaction is the sort of tripe that gives real Conservatives a bad name.
I present facts and some posters don’t like those facts.
I thank them all for the laugh their posts provide.
He’s not sworn in yet, and no cabinet positions have been confirmed.
Let’s keep the opposition guessing - okay?
