Gingrich: 'I can think of 20 other people' better suited for secretary of state than Romney
Fox News ^ | November 23, 2016

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich expressed skepticism Tuesday at reports that former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney was the frontrunner to be President-elect Donald Trump's secretary of state.

"I can think of 20 other people who would be more naturally compatible with the Trump vision of foreign policy," Gingrich told Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight."

...Gingrich added that his preferred choices for secretary of state over Romney included former Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, former U.N. ambassador John Bolton, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani and former Hewlett-Packard CEO and Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina.

I can see Romney meeting world leaders with glad tidings: “Hi, I am Mitt Romney, have you heard the good news “

Here's Newt still lobbying for SoS. I have no problems with that as I think he'd have better policy than Romney (yes, SoS...being 4th in succession for POTUS is often of some independent thought). But Romney, if he dutifully carries out the letter and spirit of Trump policy would be an excellent choice and cause far fewer nightly news problems.

Yeah, keep beating that drum. Gingrich admitted it was a dumb move. Keep beating the drum. Some of us here paid attention when he was Speaker, wrote Contract, and listened to him in the 2012 debates.

Keep beating your drum.

You forgot to scream, "BAGGAGE!"

It’s because of Bolton and his friends — who never saw a hornets’ nest they didn’t want to smack — that the Middle East is a smoking ruin and islam is on the march.

No to Bolton, and hell no.

Doesn’t bother me in the least, unless Mr. Romney intends to house a private server in his basement. Or go Al Haig rogue at some point.

Otherwise, he’ll do the bidding of President Trump or he’ll be fired.

Mr. Romney is certainly a smooth operator. I voted for him to be president in 2012, so I can live with him as the nation’s top diplomat. Bottom line: Mitt Romney will represent the Trump administration at the pleasure of Donald Trump.

Wake up. Newt has said repeatedly that he does NOT want a position in the Trump administration. Newt has said he would like an informal advisory role with Trump.

What’s your point? Gingrich has most likely achieved more in his career than someone who makes remarks like yours.

Romney is a lot better than any of those names for that particular job: Casino Host to the World. :)

You want your Secretary of State to be genial, charismatic and completely ineffective, and Romney has all the tools to excel at it.

“i think Newt just nuked any chance of Romney being named SoS.”

I hope so. Like Newt said, who is Mitt going to represent? President Trump or a wishful President Romney.

wake up yourself. He waited long enough to say he wanted an informal role, perhaps long enough to find out he’s out of contention for a cabinet position.

We all know Gingrich is a loose cannon of sorts.

Yes, best self-slam I’ve ever heard.

Look, none of us want Romney. Newt has nothing to do with Trump’s choice and he should shut up.

This guy can’t stand not being in the spotlight. Carl Rove, Newt Gingrich... just shut the hell up folks.

Fiorina? Newt is an idiot.

Militant hawks and determined doves cancel each other out.

Trump is going to go with somebody not closely identified with either faction.

That might be Romney or it might not, but it's not going to be somebody who plays an ultra hawk on television, like Bolton.

Corker has ethics troubles, so it's not likely to be him.

FWIW: how weird is it that Gingrich has more of a grudge against Romney than Trump?
