A drop in millionaires in Switzerland this year has failed to significantly dent the country’s impressive wealth, as a report by Credit Suisse declares it the richest country in the world yet again.
The Global Wealth Report 2016, published on Tuesday by the Swiss bank’s Research Institute, said Switzerland had an average wealth per person of $561,900 in 2016, making Swiss adults 11 times richer than the average world citizen.
However Switzerland’s average wealth in 2016 was slightly down on last year’s figure of $567,100.
The country experienced the second biggest drop in wealth per adult behind the UK, meaning there are 58,000 fewer millionaires in the country this year.
But there’s still an embarrassment of riches in the country, as Switzerland’s adults own 1.4 percent of global assets even though they only account for 0.1 percent of the global adult population.
Wealth per adult in the country has exceeded $500,000 every year since 2012, a threshold not achieved by any other country, said the report.
As wealth per adult stagnated globally in 2016, Switzerland has increased its distance from the second richest country, Australia, which lags 33 percent behind, said the report.
Switzerland is likely to retain the top spot by a large margin as Swiss wealth per adult could surpass $600,000 within the next five years, predicted the report’s authors.

Should be noted that the Swiss don’t dig the gold (Gems, precious metals in your list) themselves. They import it, make it into certified bars or something and then export it again basically selling trust.

That’s another product/service they provide - a clean, safe, beautiful country with a civilized society and great standard of living, and low diversity - the type of place that appeals to wealthy people.
They are prolific producers of insurance worldwide, gadgets (their national child hero is a character who gets into scrapes and invents cool gadgets to solve problems — it’s in their national geist. They make actual products, they make food and wine, they make financial products, watches, jewelry... linens and wooden toys... candy... CHOCOLATE...

How do they handle “poor” people? Every society has people that are unable to cope, what do they about them?
What about people that are able to work but choose not to because the “safety net” gives them enough to live on?
There aren’t really any poor Swiss. I looked for slums for months, nothing.
Yes, there are some young people on the French speaking side who are more French than Swiss who will use the dole rather than work. OH YEAH, I was one of them. Actually, that is how I became a conservative. I had a baby. My job laid me off. I got to stay home with my baby and got paid for it, 90% of a decent salary. I had to apply for jobs every week, but you were allowed to put your personal details in your resume, so I mentioned my being married AND having a baby, oh, and not being able to write in French, and no French Swiss boss wants THAT. They advertise for “attractive young single secretary” etc there. I never even got asked for interviews. Collecting that $ every week woke me up to the evils of socialism.
On the German speaking side they are shamed too greatly for living off the dole. You’d have to be a serious loser to do that. It isn’t done.

Germany and Austria, two of the wealthiest countries in the world.
Northern Italy, the wealthiest part of Italy.
And France, a moderately wealthy nation.
While foreigners are not as large a segment of the Swiss population compared to some other European countries, there are quite a number of them.
Almost 200,000 Kosovo Albanians and almost as many Turks are the largest Muslim groups.

It’s because all the rich Arabs have a house there.
Of course, not having your country invaded, nor having to rebuild your cities from the rubble, for 200 years, helps create a platform for a successful, stable society with a highly-developed infrastructure.
(That’s a compliment by the way, not a dig.)
Contrary to popular MSM/LSM mythology, they can also be very altruistic - for example in 1945, in the face of pressure from all sides, they refused to give up thousands of Soviet escapees who had places reserved for them in Stalin’s gulags.

Blood money. I’m dismissive of the Swiss and their ill-gotten wealth. Maybe they cough it up to pay back reparations for the people they’ve harmed?
