Perhaps he flies Melania and Barron up to Camp David every so often...I heard that the White Hut was mostly middle eastern decor and very little red, white and blue....My guess is that The Trumps will do a MAJOR decoration Reno before wanting to move in!

I don’t think anyone can blame him for not wanting to rush into a house that is dirty, has been inhabited by drug dealers and voodoo priestesses and hasn’t been maintained for 8 years.

We already know the Oval Office is long overdue for an upgrade - what else is?

Good article bigbob. Camp David might be the solution, but then again are they lurking here :-). Seriously, 1600 is going to get renovated. As much as I am having a schadenfreude moment over NY-er’s who didn’t vote for DJT having their panties in a wad, It is utmost important that Melania and Baron stay in NY until they are ready to transition out, you know the drill, you have read they stories as well. Camp David is a respite from the issues of the 2 other locals. The golf course? I could see a Trump upgrade free of charge ;-).

Got any proof of this claim?

Where do you get your information? Try someplace else, maybe starting with whitehouse.gov.

I would LOVE to see the New York folks grinding and gnashing their teeth when they get near Trump Tower.

Actually it's not like that at all. Even before Trump ran for president, the Trump Tower (one of several Trump-owned skyscrapers in the city) was a showpiece. I walked through the lobby many times, especially on rainy days as you could get from Fifth Ave to Madison without even getting wet. There's a large atrium on the Madison side (part of IBM building) connected to the Trump Tower multi-level atrium.

During the campaign, tourists would flock there to take pictures and since the election, the foot traffic has increased enormously, which can only be good (in the long run) for local businesses. Also, the people living there (like Bruce Willis) are now living in the the safest private residential building in the world. The security checkpoints to get access to the tower will be a hassle but what do you expect? I'm sure the permanent residents and employees will eventually be badged through, if they aren't already.

Other than the organized protests we've been reading about, the area around the Trump Tower is pretty friendly and most people are proud to have the President-Elect in their midst. The inconvenience of getting around have been overstated by those not friendly to Trump. I still walk by there about every day and haven't had any hassle. Traffic on Fifth Avenue is down to three lanes (for security barriers) but moving. The only real disruption is that 56th Street between Madison and 6th Avenue are blocked off and barricaded with tons of police officers, Secret Service, K-9 units, anti-terrorism squads, the works. I'm thinking that over time, they will eventually allow traffic to flow there as well. Right now, they appear to be busy putting permanent infrastructure in place.

It will take a while to get rid of the chain smoke residue. Anyone with allergies would not want to move into the WH anytime soon. But I’m guessing.

Not surprisingly, the White House decor is mostly French and English, as I recall from tours.

The Obama living quarters might be Middle Eastern!

He should live in the White House

Agreed.

Easy to fly the family to Camp David for weekends.

Bush 43 - and no doubt others before him - spent time at Camp David to give the White House staff a break as well as having some r and r time for himself.

However, if our PE decides to spend a lot of time in NY, so be it.

He will bring the USA back from the brink.

He deserves our support unconditionally.

No. A presidential visit to New York is quite well absorbed. It is Obama the drama. queen who demands the royal treatment. Trump’s living there aside

Here’s E B White from the fifties when he wrote for a then tolerable magazine, ‘The New Yorker’

“I mention these merely to show that New York is peculiarly constructed to absorb almost anything that comes along (whether a thousand-foot liner out of the East or a twenty-thousand-man convention out of the West) without inflicting the event on its inhabitants; so that every event is, in a sense, optional, and the inhabitant is in the happy position of being able to choose his spectacle ... I sometimes think that the only event that hits every New Yorker on the head is the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade, which is fairly penetrating-the Irish are a hard race to tune out, there are 500,000 of them in residence, and they have the police force right in the family.”

Trump Tower, on W. 56th Street and Fifth Avenue, will be the epicenter of an iron curtain that will wall off much of Midtown from the rest of the city.

The article starts out by making the above statement, that much of Midtown will be walled off from the rest of the city, but they don't document how in the rest of the article.

Sounds like hyperbole. And of course they just had to use the word "wall" in the title.

Never before has a president lived among other people on weekends

That's a load, just like much of the rest of the article. We used to sit on the porch and watch LBJ fly in with 4 helicopters on the weekends. Within the hour, he'd be boating past the house and stopping to visit here and there. The SS had a half dozen boathouses all painted dark green. Of course, that was before ISIS and murderous demoncrats. Bottom line, Trump is not the first to get the heck out of DC on the weekends. But he's not POTUS yet and no one knows for sure what his schedule will be.

Define “not biased”. There was enough meat to be able to camouflage a number of little ticklers.
