Should the Republican Senate majority change the rule regarding Supreme Court nominees? Would it be wise?
Well, the liberals can’t say anything if the Republicans did change the rules. After all, they changed rules when they had the power, to grease the skids for Obama nominees.
I would be hesitant to change rules, just because, if you think longer term, you have to think about how your political opponents would use those rules when they again take power.
Obama is not the last Democrat president this country will ever see. The Democrats will someday again control the Senate. Harry Reid should have thought longer term when he rammed through his rule change.
An argument for changing the rule is that the Democrats given the same situation in the future probably would.
They didn’t have to change it for Obama’s two appointments because they knew the Republicans would fold like a cheap suit, and they were not disappointed.
I suppose the Republicans could hold the threat of a rule change over their head if they filibuster Trump’s nominee.
“I would be hesitant to change rules, just because, if you think longer term, you have to think about how your political opponents would use those rules when they again take power.”
They’d change the rules anyway. They will fight dirty for their agenda, wile Repubs will give theirs up, in order to be nice and honorable
