The Air Force One Boeing 747-200, which has been used to carry the President of the United States for the last 70 years, is reaching the its life expectancy next year, but the White House is yet to find replacements.
Although the jets can and have been driven safely in their old ages before - which is usually after 30 years - the US Air Force do not want to "take chances" with the President's safety.
Kevin Buckley, program executive officer of mobility programs at the US Air Force, said: We grit our teeth and bear it in the US Air Force.

The two 747's that are currently the AF1 planes were delivered around 1990, and went into service some time after that (after getting their high-tech presidential gadgets installed).
Last I heard, the two new 787's are supposed to go into service in 2017.
The C-5 would go over our house when testing. Pretty cool!
Yeh Trump One is far superior anyway. LOL!

What idiots.

It should be ready for the inauguration
I remember going to MIA in 1970 to see one. It was beautiful.
The article also says that is old for an airliner which is also misleading. An airliner's age is measured in takeoff and landing pressurization cycles. AF-1 is very young when evaluated to that criteria.
Simply put, the VC-25 is configured as a flying command post and is post nuclear war capable. Nothing else flying can match it's IC3 capabilities and it is irreplaceable by anything other than a new design with the same or enhanced improvements.
It’s a Boeng 707. Been to many interesting exhibits at the RR library.
Yes. The current Air Force One 747-200s went into service in 1990. The next Air Force Ones are slated to be 747-8s.
Reagan's Air Force One is on display at the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California.
GM is cooking up a fresh batch of “The Beadt” as we speak.
Oval office is ready for Trump to use day 1.
Rove was wrong again.
Slo Joe, is that you?
