Trump’s win vs. Reagan’s blowout: Why 2016 is NOT 1980 (Endorsed by Mark Levin)
Conservative Review ^ | November 18, 2016 | Paul Kengor

Posted on 11/18/2016 9:24:16 AM PST by conservative98

Beginning last summer, I wrote a series of articles for Conservative Review comparing Donald Trump and Ronald Reagan. The series was inspired by Trump enthusiasts insisting that their man was the closest thing to America’s next Ronald Reagan. Donald Trump was no less than “another Reagan.” Most central to the Trump-Reagan thesis was the curious insistence that the underestimated Trump, just like the once-underestimated Reagan, would rise up and crush Hillary Clinton in Reaganesque fashion. It would be a landslide.

Don't Miss A Tweet Profile Picture Conservative Review @CR Follow Well, with the historic vote of Tuesday, November 8, 2016, and Trump nabbing the presidency from the grasp of Hillary Clinton, I’ve received many emails from Trump enthusiasts claiming vindication. One emailer told me that Donald Trump will be chiseled on Mt. Rushmore one day, the end-game of his Reaganesque march and crowning “landslide” victory. Yes, the emailer used precisely that word, and repeatedly demanded that I concede the “landslide.”

It’s like 1980 all over again.

Before addressing how wildly inaccurate such claims are, I want to pause to congratulate Donald Trump, his team, and his devoted followers. I also want to tell them that they’re damned lucky, and in their heart of hearts, they should know it. Trump could have very, very easily lost, and really probably should have, as I’ll show in a minute by reviewing some of the shocking data.

“Levin, like Trump, is a temperamental man with strong opinions who often shoots from the hip. If you’re expecting him to blindly follow Trump, or anyone else, you’re going to be disappointed. “

He sure had NO PROBLEM blindly following his girlfriend who was working for Cruz, and CRUZ no matter what facts were thrown in his face.

Mark Levin SOLD OUT! There are dozens f articles out there explaining who owns Levin. It sure isn’t his PAST audience!

I think there’s less than a 50% chance that Trump is even going to run again in 2020. I’d also point out that the GOP holding the Senate was as big a story in 2016 as Trump’s win. The expectations for Trump are so low that he almost can’t fail even if he tries.

First, EVERYBODY opposed Trump. Even his own party.

Also true of Reagan.

The exit polls show that there was no significant "#NeverTrump" vote. The 8-9% crossover is in line with all previous elections. Reagan faced the same crossover, in addition to losing 7% of the Republican vote to third-party candidate and former Republican John Anderson.

The "Rockefeller" wing of the Republican Party, which memory challenged FReepers are assuming is a recent globalist/RINO cabal, has always been there, and they fought against Reagan every inch of the way.

“The Donald needs to address his lackluster popular vote performance if he has any hope of reelection.”

Presidents, unless they screw up royally, pretty much universally do better the second time around, so this isn’t a legitimate worry.

I've been saying it to them all along.

...in victory magnanimity

They need to start following Churchill's advice. The primary point of opposition by the #NeverTrumpers was that Trump is a Trojan Horse and no conservative; he can easily get their votes and support by proving them wrong. His cabinet picks -- real and conjectured -- have all been good. Some of his supporters need to stop acting like jerks.

They certainly fipped VA to Clinton

They did no such thing.

Virginia is gone. Please do a little research. VA has a serious problem with 1) an exploding population of government employees and 2) a very large influx of illegal aliens.

#NeverTrumpers were a non-factor in this election. The exit polling shows very clearly they were not a factor anywhere. They were highly visible because many of them were pundits and former highly placed government staffers and pols, but they did not have more than a statistically insignificant number of votes.

It did nothing. It was a complete non-factor.

This article is not by Levin, and the analysis is correct.

Complete crap.

Run the numbers. #NeverTrumpers had zero effect on the outcome of the election.

Article might as well be by Levin. He is the Editor-In-Chief of CR and is promoting it on his social sites. He’ll probably be reading from it on tonight’s show.

Paul Kengor and Mark Levin are two asshats. Levin is a complete and total fraud and a coward. It’s easy to sit behind a microphone and complain all day and Monday morning quarterback. Levin has never had the guts
To do anything but rant and rave, sell some books and shake his listeners down for more sales for his parents 3rd grade books. Eff Levin. Total jerk off.

Re: Voter Fraud

(1) California and New York are the two states with the most foreign born residents.

Why would non-citizen immigrants in California and New York deliberately commit a felony to vote for Hillary Clinton when Clinton would have easily won both states without them?

(2) Texas and Florida are the next two states with the most foreign born residents.

The Republican Party has a powerful political presence in both of those states.

Why do Texas and Florida Republicans calmly allow millions of non-citizens to vote in their elections?

Check your sense of reality. The MSM today is far more radicalized.

The MSM today is far more radicalized.

Nonsense.

Apparently you weren't alive and functioning in 1980. I was. The MSM today is no different than it was then. It was, in fact, worse then because there was no alternative media whatsoever. Many people didn't even have cable TV in 1980, and you got NBC, ABC, or CBS, Period. Talk radio was confined to SportsTalk and a handful of moonbats with zero national audience.

Stupid, stupid article. I just love people who were against Trump before the election and never thought he had a chance to win, now want to offer their “expert” analysis and advice. Trump would do well to pay them as much attention now as he did before the election. IGNORE THEM. And I’m sure he will. Of course, Trump and Reagan is not a perfect comparison. DUH! But there are many comparisons that do apply. As awesome of a President as Reagan was, Trump has an opportunity to do even more. And he is well on his way. He just nends to stick to his MAGA agenda and ignore the nitwits, and 2020 will be a popular and electoral landslide.

Right. Because serving as chief of staff for the Attorney General under Reagan is "nothing."

Agreed, Reagan ran against the media and the Democrats. Trump ran against everyone, the democrat media, the democrats and the Republican party.

Article might as well be by Levin.

Because ... logic.

Levin might or might not read the article. To support articles posted on a web site that you support is no crime, and the article is correct. But that doesn't mean it's Levin's analysis: it isn't.

You want to alienate voters we can easily get in the next election, fine, keep it up. Let's all revel in the victory and enjoy our one term president.
