White House: We Don’t Have The Authority To Pardon DREAMers

White House officials moved Thursday afternoon to stop the nascent effort by Democrats and immigration activists asking President Obama to pardon so-called DREAMers, releasing a statement to BuzzFeed News that the president does not have the power to do so.

“The president takes the executive clemency power seriously. As a general matter, we do not comment on the likelihood of whether a specific pardon may be granted, should one be requested,” a White House official said. “We note that the clemency power could not give legal status to any undocumented individual. As we have repeatedly said for years, only Congress can create legal status for undocumented individuals.”

Stupid.

Who thought you give clemency to anyone who is not a citizen?

Technically, he hasn’t granted any real amnesty because he doesn’t have the power. He simply “deferred” their deportation, basically saying it is the lowest priority for all of the agencies he controls.

He pardoned them after the war and the draft were over, so the crimes were all in the past. These illegals are in a continual state of crime as long as they remain in the country. A pardon would be useless here, because they’d be right back in trouble one second later.

And “technically” he didn’t tell illegals to vote, but that was a difference without distinction, and it accomplished the same end.

Well, this time there is a distinction. His “deferrals” can be reversed with one pen stroke on Inauguration Day, a real amnesty could not.

What’s going on? I figured Obama would jump at the chance to do this.

White House: We Don’t Have The Authority To Pardon DREAMers

Yeah, know why????

Because our (so called) President does NOT have the power to pardon FOREIGNERS who commit crimes...regardless if they are in our country.

"Can they pardon non-citizens? I would think not..."

Of course he can't pardon foreigners.

The mere notion is absurd.

A pardon is for a crime that has been committed. Illegal immigrants are in the process of committing that crime and would still be committing it after a pardon — unless it was given after they left the country.

Dang! LOVE that picture and tried to make it my wallpaper but it is just way too big for my 21” monitor.

Shame. I would LOVE to have that as a wallpaper.

The people saying we can’t physically build a wall because it is too challenging. Yeah, right. We put a man on the moon. We split the atom. Microchips hold the amount of data that on paper would have filled a football stadium in the 1960s. We built the Panama Canal. We can fly aircraft around the world without landing.

But we can’t build a 2000-mile wall on solid ground?

Yeah, right. Any engineer would laugh you into the stone age if you told them that. The wall is nothing but an engineering detail and money. It would have cost a small fraction of the $10 trillion Obama added to the national debt. A small fraction.

He can pardon them for past crimes...and if they leave the country prior to the pardon, they can have their records completely cleared. But if are here at the moment of pardon, as others said, they are still breaking the law.

White House official: “We note that the clemency power could not give legal status to any undocumented individual. As we have repeatedly said for years, only Congress can create legal status for undocumented individuals.”

So what authority did Obama have to say that undocumented aliens have the right to vote, and that they were actually “citizens” when in the voting booth?

How can you pardon someone who is in the process of breaking the law? He an pardon them today but that doesn’t make them citizens or change the fact that they are in the country illegally.
