Whoa: Mitt Romney to meet with Trump about possible cabinet position

Reaaaaaaaally smart move by Trump. Although I wonder how much trouble he might be having in staffing up if he’s reaching out to Trumpers’ least favorite Republican for a job.

NEWS from @PrestonCNN –Trump meeting with Mitt Romney this weekend to discuss governing and possible Cabinet post #2016

— Deirdre Walsh (@deirdrewalshcnn) November 17, 2016 Could be that this is just symbolic outreach to his critics in the GOP, as today’s meeting with Nikki Haley probably is, and nothing more will come of it. Even if so, that’s smart. Building goodwill among traditional Republicans will buy him a unified party for awhile and keep his critics on the right quieter for longer than they otherwise might have been. And it’s a shrewd way of signaling that he intends to govern in a more statesmanlike way than he campaigned. Romney gave an entire speech arguing against Trump’s candidacy earlier this year and then pointedly refused to endorse him this summer, and now Trump’s going to consider him for a job on grounds, presumably, that grudges can’t be held when it comes to getting the best people for the job. To repeat: Smart. Makes me wonder how long it’ll be before he offers Hillary an ambassadorship.

I’m okay with giving Mitt Education or EPA . . . as long as the department is eliminated in the first year.

A cabinet position?

I recommend all the way in the back of a deep corner cabinet - one with child-proof latches on the doors...

Could Trump manage to pull all these factions to the right and accept his agenda? My guess is Cruz and the neverTrump crowd have gotten the news that they have a real winner coming to Penn Ave.

Trump is not a political animal, at least not yet. He’s driven by results, he wants the best team in place, the most competent. The RNC really screwed themselves by not getting behind Trump, he has no allegiances to maintain. I know the Mark Levin purists hate Priebus as Chief of Staff, because for Levin a political animal he sees everything through that lens, he knows no other way to be. Trump looks at the resume, the person and what skills they have acumen for. Don’t be surprised if other former Trump foes\enemies are mentioned, like Mike Lee for cabinet positions. Laura Ingrham for Press Secretary...she would be great!

I still recall Nikki Haley’s smirking face when she went after a battle flag, accusing the flag of causing homicides. Shows Nikki Haley is mentally unbalanced.

If Romney is kept in the right zone, he can be an asset. Let’s wait and see

Trump is willing to forgive and forget. Romney is also hopefully smart enough to realize this and that Republicans need to unite to set a positive agenda and ‘make America great again”.

Republican infighting only helps the Democrats.

In 1861 Abraham Lincoln brought into his cabinet 2 of his former competitors for the 1860 Republican party nomination, William Seward and Salmon Chase, for the plum cabinet positions of Secretary of State and Secretary of Treasury. I think Romney would be a good choice for Ambassador to Algeria or Cote de Ivoire since he speaks fluent French.
