Ryan stops vote on bringing back earmarks

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) on Wednesday persuaded GOP lawmakers to postpone a vote on a measure to bring back legislative earmarks.

"Based on the comments by members, it was likely that an earmark amendment would have passed," a GOP source in the room told The Hill. "Ultimately, the speaker stepped in and urged that we not make this decision today.”

"We just had a 'drain the swamp' election," Ryan said in a private meeting of the House Republican conference, according to CNN. "Let's not just turn around and bring back earmarks two weeks later."

Which means they’ll bring it back two months later, or something, when they think no one’s watching.

Never turn your backs on RINOs, folks. Next 4 years is going to be slugfest against both Dems and RINOs. Don’t kid yourselves. Maintain positions.

Yes, let's wait at lest two months before doing so. Let people forget.

“Just watched “Mr. Smith Goes To Washington” last night (for like the 30th time in my life).”

I’m probably right in this ball park. Great film!

Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and Washington, DC have just fought a long series of battle to try to keep nuclear power giant Exelon from taking over local electric providers. Exelon won and in Baltimore electric rates have risen significantly, in DC Pepco, now run by Exelon, asked for an $85.5million rate increase two weeks after they were acquired by Exelon. Talk about optics.

Perhaps what would make sense would be to give each state a fixed earmark fund, dollar amount based on population, which they could use as they wished for various earmarks.
