Saudi Arabia has warned (Donald Trump) that the incoming US president will risk the health of his country’s economy if he acts on his election promises to block oil imports.

In a sign of the difficulties Mr Trump faces over his campaign pledges to create “complete American energy independence” from “our foes and the oil cartels”, Saudi Arabia’s energy minister pointedly reminded the president-elect that the US “benefits more than anybody else from global free trade”, adding, “energy is the lifeblood of the global economy”.

Hmmmmm, a threat? I would imagine the President Elect will be getting more than a few of these "warnings" as he keeps his promise to Make America Great Again....business as usual is not top priority on Trump's list.

You can look on oil/ energy as king, or flood the market where gas is a nickle a gallon. It would hurt oil producers but otoh you have all that cash freed up that consumers will spend or invest on other things.

Our new president would do better to keep free trade in oil but to sell off half (~300M barrels) of the strategic petroleum reserve over the next year. That would cut the deficit, reduce prices to American consumers and cause havoc in global oil markets.

He should also lift many of the restrictions and regulations on US energe production.

How to "block" imported Saudi oil without legislation.

Let Trans Canada Pipelines BUILD THE KEYSTONE PIPELINE. Provide transportation for Alberta oil and the market will "block" out imports from Saudi Arabia.

Of course, President Trump knows and understands this.
