Press worries over President-elect Trump
The Hill ^ | November 12, 2016 | JORDAN FABIAN

The relationship between Donald Trump and the news media is as acrimonious as ever following his victory in Tuesday’s presidential election.

Members of the press complain that Trump isn't adequately informing the media about his decisions as president-elect, calling it a violation of practices meant to ensure access to and transparency around the leader of the free world.

The tensions come after a bitter campaign, in which Trump used the press as a foil.

The Republican nominee frequently lambasted the news media as “dishonest” during his rallies, and crowds would chant slogans such as “CNN sucks” and hurl invective at members of his traveling press corps. Trump continued the theme late Thursday night, when he took to Twitter to blame the media for fueling nationwide protests against his election as president. He walked back his comment in a subsequent tweet.

Here are some of the points of contention:

Press Pool

Trump did not allow reporters to travel with him to Washington on Thursday for meetings with President Obama and leaders in Congress.

His team never allowed a so-called “pool” of reporters and photographers to travel on his plane during the campaign.

Every modern president and president-elect has traveled with a pool, but news organizations have thus far failed to convince Trump’s advisers to immediately adopt the practice.

The White House, and not Trump’s team, made arrangements to have a pool of journalists cover the president-elect’s meeting with President Obama in the Oval Office.

“The Press” has revealed themselves to be a bunch of traitors who worked incessantly to defeat President-elect Trump. Why should he give then special access to undercut him and publish lies about him?

If he is going to have a press pool, let it be from The Daily caller, The Drudge Report, FreeRepublic, Brietbart, other online sources that will be as friendly to him as the old media has been to President Obama.

The media should be held accountable for inciting the riots taking place. They made the incendiary remarks implying that President-elect Trump was a racist, a bigot, a sexual predator ad infinitum.

They clearly believed their hateful rhetoric would help Hillary - now the chickens are coming home to riot.

The Media’s 8-year vacation might be over. During the Obama years they printed WHAT the Whitehouse wrote for them, and released the stories WHEN they were ordered to. Now they are going to have to find their own stories, do a little leg-work, see if they can get a comment from a Trump official... In short, be journalists again.

OTOH, they can smack the alarm clock snooze-button and continue to re-word press releases from whichever Soros-funded DNC group is bitching today.

Work is for the “Deplorables”.

Don't know if the photo is real (as in, Trump was showing a copy) but yes, Newsweek printed commemorative copies of both Clinton and Trump winning the presidency.

Newsweek ordered the Clinton ones returned, but apparently some retailers put them out for sale. You can get one on eBay for about $500.

All the press is really worried about is losing their free rides on Air Force One. They’re going to have to buy their own airline tickets to follow him around. They’re going to be forced to [ugh] ride with “ordinary” people

When Trump does press conferences, all press participants must disclose any personal or corporate donations made to political parties, candidates and political organizations. Also any personal connections to public figures.

Then, they can ask questions.

Thanks Maggie for your post.

They will be unified against their common enemy Trump, and our side will have too much to think about to get unified to fight them. They will have only the next election in mind while we will be competing with each other to influence the president’s agenda.

I do not know how he will lead. I reckon that he will get to work saving the country and ignore the future elections. Perhaps he will establish priorities and insist that we all get behind them. We all work together, putting our own individual, hot-button, emotion-charged issues aside for a while. He provokes the Democrats to defend their turf. He wins on some lesser, easier issues while seeing the weakness in the enemy’s strategy.

When he takes on Obamacare, it will be ugly, but it will be a clear fight and we will be behind him because he will show us how to win. Furthermore the win will count for something beyond the next election. Four years from now you will not remember that you ever wanted to start a new party. Republican incumbents in the next 2 Senate elections will not even be thought of as weak or compromising.

An election is only a means to and end! We do not need to win a horse race; we must save the country!

Just remember, fellow Freepers, they’re talking about Trump, but it’s really you that they hate. I hope everyone now realizes that fact.

“Hey, wait a minute!
What if we relentlessly attack Trump and promote Hillary but Trump actually wins?

“Yeah - Good point.
That means that the president of the USA will be pissed off at us big-time.”

“Trump win? Don’t be ridiculous - that could never happen!
Now get out there and dig up some dirt on the Trump kids.”

I hope he takes control of the press room to allow questions from a broader number of journalists and no just the same tired faces.

1st thing to do regarding the press is cancel the White House Correspondences Dinner clown show.

What they fail to understand is: Trump is the first PE, to travel in his own PRIVATE plane.

This is not a chartered airliner.

Perhaps the “pool” should get their various organizations to pool their money on a chartered airliner.

AF1 will be a different matter.

Yes, WH Correspondents’ Dinner serves no purpose, including the parade of Hollywood celebrities.
