Obama’s main legacy: the collapse of the Democratic Party
nypost ^

In the course of about six hours, what was supposed to be a Republican existential crisis turned into a Republican wave.

What was supposed to be a victory of the coalition of the ascendant became a dispiriting rout of the coalition that didn’t show up.

What was supposed to be the crowning political achievement of Barack Obama’s presidency set the predicate for the unraveling of his legacy.

Since before he was elected president, Obama put down as a marker the transformational example of Ronald Reagan. That entailed moving the political center of gravity of the country in his direction; winning re-election; and cementing his standing by securing a de facto third term for a Democratic successor.

As of 7 p.m. Tuesday, the Reagan standard looked to be in Obama’s grasp. His approval rating stood above 50 percent. He campaigned vigorously, and apparently effectively, in front of adoring crowds. The last round of public polling and the exit polls on Election Day showed Hillary Clinton getting over the top, and her victory seemed likely to precipitate an ugly, self-destructive Republican civil war

I thought BHO "was the one they were waiting for"?

One of those, "Be careful of what you wish for, you might get it" things?

It’s funny that they were talking about the GOP collapsing just a few days ago.

Seems to happen every time the opposition party becomes ascendant.

His approval rating is just another leftist con job. If he was that popular Hillary would have won.

The author forgets to mention the Supreme Court. Much more important in my opinion than the state houses or even the US Congress. Although there we don’t have a final score on that, anywhere from 2-4 ultra-liberal, constitution-ignoring, social justice warriors in black robes that will NOT be sworn in.

They’ll be back. The mob can always be rallied given a demagogue with sufficient magnetism. The ‘Rat party was eviscerated at all levels of government during Clinton’s presidency yet they rose to put Obama into power. It’s never over. Never.

I wonder if that rating came from the same polls that showed Clinton winning easily.

Rush was questioning the validity of those approval numbers this morning. If they lied about everything else why should we believe those approval numbers? I find them very hard to believe in any case.

I've suddenly come to a different conclusion about President 0bama. I believe he's a true American hero. Hear me out.

He twice stopped Hillary Clinton, the first time directly, the second time indirectly by sabotaging her with the FBI.

He forced Americans to experience a taste of the misery of living under Socialism, but without ever actually instituting it. It doesn't take a lot of that to convince any sane person that Socialism has to be stopped by whatever means possible.

He was lousy at working with the Congress to pass any of his agenda, which means that most of his ideas remain just ideas, locked forever in his head, and not into law. Most of what he did can be easily undone by executive orders, and 0bamacare was doomed to die an unnatural death anyway.

He got tens of millions of Americans to arm up even more heavily than we already were, and helped the gun companies and dealers to prosper.

All of the things he did caused America to vote for Donald Trump, and right the direction of the country. I say he's an American hero, to be celebrated forever more. Let's give him his own holiday.

Of course, I suspect that none of the above is what he actually intended, so perhaps he shouldn't be given so much credit.

Oh, and I forgot the most important one, which is the point of the original article - he was almost singlehandedly responsible for causing possibly irreparable harm to the Democrat Party, perhaps his most glorious achievement.

The Democrats always collapse after they get their stupid, evil policies in place. They always come back when there are enough voters who are too young to remember how horrible the last Democrat was.
