Like the rest of the Senate, Paul Ryan is owned by special interests.

President Trump, please do not trust Paul Ryan.

Ryan is dreaming.

No one is going to touch Medicare. Seniors vote.

Yes and no. Whatever the final form of Obamacare's replacement is ( HSA + Direct Primary Care are the big ones ) it should be a template for a private option for: The VA, Medicaid & Medicare.

Prototype it with the VA and make the House and Senate get the same plan as the VA and make them work through the bugs etc before roll out. If it is good enough for ours that Serve, it is more than good enough for them...

First - never trust nor listen to anything on Salon; secondly - never, ever allow Paul Ryan in charge of anything!

He'd just as soon stab Trump in the back but also, even though his background is in accounting/economics, I think, he'll sell the American people out in favor of big business/insurance/pharma!

Ryan has advocated transforming Medicare from a federal program to a private model where seniors would rely on federal subsidies to buy private insurance.

So how much would private healthcare insurance for an 84 year old with heart problems and Alzheimer's cost? And how much would the subsidy be?

The government’s hand lies heavy on Medicare.

If you aren’t over 65, the odds are you don’t understand Medicare at all.

When GWB put in Medicare Part C, he essentially put in a privatized option. I was going to take it, but I turned 65 when Obamacare was in the wind, and the rumor was that rates for Part C would be going up because Obama was going to divert some of that income to the ACA.

If there was a truly privatized part of Medicare as an option, it would do well competing with the regular Medicare if it was well run. As it is, Medicare is pretty good, but it is price controlld by the government, and the price varies mightily between heavily supported and about fair. That is, your premium depends on your income.

“Gut” is not synonymous with “repeal”.

It needs to be repealed.

I’m not sure what Ryan has in mind, But Newt proposed that back in the 1990’s. How it works is a voucher is given to a retiree and he or she can shop for their own health insurance. Result would be better health coverage.

There isn’t anything more important to the success of the Trump presidency than dumping Ryan as Speaker.

Do not trust him, he wants to wreck you.
Do not underestimate the power of the speaker of the house.

There are few things which would make Mr. Trump
LOSE HIS BASE.
Keeping the RAT Romney-Soros-Obama-toadie Ryan

guaranteed losing issue. People who wanted to vote for Romney voted against him just because of Paul Ryan wanting to tamper with Medicare...after Bush W lost Congress wanting to “partially privatize Social Security”....which Democrats & their ubliquitous media said was “gambling your money away on the stock market, so their friends on Wall Street could get richer.” Fact is, the American people LIKE SS and Medicare and we already have partially privatized Social Security in the form of IRAs and 401K plans. People don’t want Republicans messing with Medicare—which exists because free markets are ammoral, not moral-—and cannot solve every problem. People get old & infirm, get sick , injured, diseased and die. Either markets ration goods and services by price mechanism & risk——or the government does-——or else government helps people the market prices out of the system because they are bigger risk for sickness and death because of nature and nature’s God through no fault of their own. Old people couldn’t get insurance, which is why Medicare was created. By all means, debate the issue of what government should or shouldn’t do-—but drop the dogma & ideology. Just like we don’t have privatized street lights, lighthouses and traffic lights, cops, etc-——people didn’t like when GOP started running for office against the U.S. Postal Service and the people it employs. Trump got elected because people are sick of rigid ideology & anti-government hatred. Paul Ryan needs to chill. He cost us one election and the last thing we need is to lose the House in the midterm elections because probably Trump will not run for a second term.

Ryan’s last proposal did not touch the current system for people 55 and over. Even if Trump agrees to Ryan’s prior proposal, it will move younger people into a market based system. It will not take Medicare from retirees or people close to retirement.
