What was supposed to be the crowning political achievement of Barack Obamas presidency set the predicate for the unraveling of his legacy.
Obama is a once-in-a-generation political athlete who will always be remembered as the nations first African-American president. But a goodly portion of what he has labored for over two terms could now wash out with the political tide. His party has been devastated beneath him. It began in 2010, when Republicans took the House by winning 63 seats, the biggest pickup since 1948, and six seats in the Senate. In 2014, Republicans gained another 13 House seats and took control of the Senate. Democrats lost more than 900 state legislative seats in this period.
All in a presidential year. The GOP controls the presidency, the US Senate and House, and roughly two-thirds of the countrys governorships and state legislatures. The Democrats are now, judging by the scorecard of major offices, the nations minority party.

They do not have one let alone 16 candidates to run in 2020.
The bigger tell of their collapse is Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa. Fifty years ago the Southern Democrats started to affiliate with the republican party. The South is now solid republican. The union members of those northern cities are now starting to move to the republican party. The democratic party will soon be marginalized to the west cost, New England and New York. Trump exposed the quicksand that the democrats built their base on; they are sinking. Who will throw them a rope and pull them out? Cher, Madonna, Beyonce? They are dead.
Being black had nothing to do with his utter and complete failure as POTUS. It was his policies and anti American actions.
You ought to be a bit more humble, unless you can somehow show that Ted Cruz's father assassinated JFK.
yep, as per usual, Obummer is getting a pass as NO ONE in the media is blaming him for Trump’s victory.
Just remember, the same polls that tell us he has an approval rating in the 60 percentile range are the polls that told us Hillary would be President.
I hope so too. But we don’t call them “The Stupid Party”, for nothing.
THey’ve lied to us too many times.
They’re gonna have to “earn” back any goodwill I might have to give.
Don’t F*ck it up!
I see the Bradley effect. No one wants to be viewed as a racist.
Who says Obama isn’t an American hero?
Only if the full force of law is brought against this anti-American criminal syndicate.
The fact that 50 million plus 'people' voted for a bobble-headed b!tch with a background of treason, corruption, felonies, pedophilia and satanism tells me we have a Herculean task ahead of us in order to save America.
That's called brainwashing. It takes time to overcome. I don't think even Trump could build enough insane asylums necessary for all the obama and hillary voters.
Don’t forget Barry armed American citizens to the teeth. When that joker was elected I had a shotgun, a rifle for deer hunting and my grandfather’s old luger. After obama my 8 grandchildren can sell some of the firearms they inherit from me and have many left to share among themselves. No need to buy more ammunition in my lifetime.
I assume most freepers can recount a similar tale.
Democrat leaders and their cohorts in the DBM are the most leftist group of people politics in America has ever seen. Their response to this election? Keith Ellison for DNC Chair? They’re delusional. Their response will be to move further left.
The Blue Dogs were totally washed out in 2010. There isn’t a moderate leader of any stature in the entire party at this point and, even if there were, they wouldn’t get the time of day.
In the final accounting of Obama’s Presidency there is one thing that is certain.
He squandered his mandate on the Affordable Care Act. He also squandered a majority of his political coin. This was the single worst effort of any modern American Presidency.
He trashed his foreign policy legacy with his apology tour and the selection of his bitter rival who had a major conflict of interest. History will show that many of his policy failures will be linked to donations to his Sec. of State’s foundation and speaking fees to her husband, a former President. I am confident of this.
His kneejerk leftists assessment that the “police acted stupidly” during the Gates fiasco (caused by Gates by the way) permanently lost the respect of many people who were willing to give him a chance. He never backed away from this because that is his nature and the “beer summit” did not change the assessment for many Americans that he lacked the pragmatism we respect in President’s. This was reinforced by many other odd decisions such as the politicization of the Justice Department (remember the Black Panther case?) that continued.
His inability to revive the economy is another black mark on his legacy and it will be made worse by a true accounting of the corruption surrounding the stimulus bill. In fact, history will show that he harmed the economy as he grew government, regulation, and red tape and even targeted major segments of the economy (beyond health care) such as the energy sector.
He accumulated more debt than all President’s before him with really nothing of long term consequence (beyond a Middle East on fire and a broken health care system) to show for it.
When people step away from emotion (as historians do) he will not be viewed as a successful President.
The results in VA would disagree with this statement.
NC is now a toss up so it is not "solid republican".
Demographic shifts in GA have not manifested themselves yet but they're happening. GA will move to battleground status in 2020 if these trends continue.
Obama’s approval rating?!? I approve of his plans in February 2017.
The media still doesn't get why the Republicans had landslides in 2010 and 14.
One of the big reasons Hillary lost was it was our last chance to vote against Obama and his Marxist/socialist policies. We knew we would just get eight more years of Obama, so nuf' said.
Socialism is incongruous with the United States and all that we stand for.
My favorite pic from the ‘Beer Summit’ was of the accused cop helping ‘Prof Gates’ down the steps, after the arrogant Obama went first.
He will be recorded in history as an abject failure. He made Jimmy Carters administration look good.
Only if he’s a Republican.
I believe his long-term legacy will no “black” being elected to the Presidency for 100 years.
I wish the Democrat party was collapsing.
They won the popular vote; only the fact that they are cooped up some limited urban areas like LA and DC saved us this time.
We can only hope the Democrats stay in the Metroplexes and don’t spread out into “flyover” country.
