Donald Trump tells Theresa May: UK is special place

US President-elect Donald Trump has invited Theresa May to visit Washington in a phone call in which both stressed the importance of UK/US relations.

Downing Street said Mr Trump had spoken of his warmth and personal connections with the UK while Mrs May congratulated him on his victory.

Mr Trump, who mother was Scottish, said the UK was a "very, very special place for me and for our country".

The two shared a "desire to strengthen bilateral trade and investment".

Mr Trump has contacted a number of world leaders in the wake of his surprise victory in the US presidential race, including those of Egypt, Ireland, Mexico, Israel, Turkey, India, Japan and South Korea.

At a press conference for Chancellor Philip Hammond earlier, questions were asked about what it meant for the UK/US "special relationship" that Mrs May had not yet spoken to the new president-elect.

However, Downing Street confirmed that the two had since spoken and had agreed that "the US-UK relationship was very important and very special and that building on this would be a priority for them both".

"President-elect Trump set out his close and personal connections with, and warmth for, the UK. He said he was confident that the special relationship would go from strength to strength."

Very glad to see him warm up relations with Britain. I am sure most pople there realized Obama was an idiot when he gave the Queen a gift of an IPod with his speeches on it. What an embarrassment! Oh, and also when he started toasting her at a dinner there, while God Save the Queen was playing.......cue Urkel whining ‘did I do that?’ BWAHAHAHAHA

The US has many friends, and many enemies,in the world. Our best friends would have to be Britain,Canada and Australia. As for a post-Brexit trade agreement with Great Britain Obola promised that such an agreement would be very low on his list of priorities. And that certainly would have been the case with President Pantsuits as well. But with President Trump such an agreement will be very *high* in *his* list.

Ms. May, could you be so gracious as to bring the Churchill Bust with you on your visit?
You know; the one bathhouse Barry sent back to the UK.

Excellent - after year of Obola souring relations, then Brexit and the EU threatening Britain trade relationship, having warm relations with US under Trump would be very positive for Britain and the US.

What a prick. The European press is worse than ours some times. I have a friend in Portugal and she was scared to death when she first saw a real firearm. I could not believe it- she almost wanted to shriek and run out of the room. A few rounds into some tin cans were enough to convince her this was something you should love

You are right the first time. What I meant was, I didn't know he had a Scottish ancestry.

Since I have been watching the TV series "Outlander" I have a soft spot for people with Scottish ancestry.

He’s half-British, much like Churchill was half-American. Trump did have this annoying tendency to suck up to the SNP when he was building that golf course, but since the SNP hierarchy decided to indulge in liberal virtue-signalling by playing to the leftist gallery and attacking him personally in order to win more votes, they’ve him completely, so I don’t think he’ll be warming to them during his presidency, lol.
