Donald Trump is moving to the White House, and liberals put him there
The Guardian ^ | Thomas Frank

Clinton’s supporters among the media didn’t help much, either. It always struck me as strange that such an unpopular candidate enjoyed such robust and unanimous endorsements from the editorial and opinion pages of the nation’s papers, but it was the quality of the media’s enthusiasm that really harmed her. With the same arguments repeated over and over, two or three times a day, with nuance and contrary views all deleted, the act of opening the newspaper started to feel like tuning in to a Cold War propaganda station. Here’s what it consisted of:

Hillary was virtually without flaws. She was a peerless leader clad in saintly white, a super-lawyer, a caring benefactor of women and children, a warrior for social justice. Her scandals weren’t real. The economy was doing well / America was already great. Working-class people weren’t supporting Trump. And if they were, it was only because they were botched humans. Racism was the only conceivable reason for lining up with the Republican candidate. How did the journalists’ crusade fail? The fourth estate came together in an unprecedented professional consensus. They chose insulting the other side over trying to understand what motivated them. They transformed opinion writing into a vehicle for high moral boasting. What could possibly have gone wrong with such an approach?

Put this question in slightly more general terms and you are confronting the single great mystery of 2016. The American white-collar class just spent the year rallying around a super-competent professional (who really wasn’t all that competent) and either insulting or silencing everyone who didn’t accept their assessment. And then they lost. Maybe it’s time to consider whether there’s something about shrill self-righteousness, shouted from a position of high social status, that turns people away.

This election showed that you can't fool most of the people all of the time. In their fervor to smear Donald Trump, they went too far. It was too much and it became too obvious what they were doing.

As the WikiLeaks emails have shown, the MSM is the greatest weapon the establishment has. They are weakened, but they will lash back as hard as ever and they will be more evil than ever.

As Freepers have been doing for years, Trump must actively fight the MSM.

What happened on Tuesday is a disaster, both for liberalism and for the world.

Let's cut that sentence down and make it pithier.

"What happened on Tuesday is a disaster for liberalism."

Succinct and to the point.

The key questions today are:

How will they resist Trump and resist freedom over the next two years and the next four years?

How will they try to win the 2020 presidential election?

How can we outplay them on those strategies? They know the media is weakened by alternative media and hacking. They know their credibility is weakened by the wikileaks revelations and by their over the top performance this election. How do we counter their responses to those losses of power?

I don’t think that people voted for Clinton because they liked her or thought she didn’t do anything wrong (although the lifting of the investigation may have helped).

MSM SCREWS UP ........the same pro-Hillary arguments repeated over and over, two or three times a day, with nuance and contrary views all deleted, the act of opening the newspaper started to feel like tuning in to a Cold War propaganda station. Here’s what it consisted of:

The Obama economy was doing well / America was already great. Working-class people weren’t supporting Trump. And if they were, it was only because they were botched humans.

Being a KKK-type racist was the only conceivable reason for lining up with the Republican candidate.

Trump must actively fight the MSM.

Have his FCC revise ownership limits on how many radio and TV stations these corporations can own. Force a sell-off.

Use antitrust law to bust-up the six media megamonopolies into itty bitty pieces.

Make them pay an ACTUAL PRICE for their malfeasance.

A suggestion regarding the THIRD paragraph of your excerpt:
“Advertisement”......we will all now enjoy a flurry of posts delighting in the suicidal squirming of the enemedia. Please remember that clicking through to the source REWARDS them with “hits” and ad revenue. These pathetic lemmings need to be rewarded with.....NOTHING! Excerpt and quote what you can in the body of the comment, and please, do NOT click through to the source. They deserve NO rewards!

My tagline is one clue...sociopaths have taken over many of these large institutions...they have a little bit of a secret...and they don't want the public to know about it...

picking fights with other countries

That is a curious comment given Hussein and Mrs Bill's record in the ME and Ukraine and her pronouncements about going to war with Russia.Or is the "picking fights with other countries" a good thing when they do it?

I think the media also factored in because of over-confidence.

1. Trump was a horrible, terrible person, who no one, who was a decent person, could ever like or support. The msm never, ever said one positive word about him.

2. All the msm’s polls confirmed he was going to lose and lose big.

So my question is ... after hearing the above for almost 2 years, how many comfy, self-satisfied lefties didn’t bother to vote since her election was so much in the bag? As much as the msm wanted to suppress Trump supporters from voting, I believe their antics backfired and they suppressed their own side far more.

Although I was enough of a critic of Trump to be banned from this site for a while, I always thought that Trump had something that Obama never did: real charisma. When people - even some conservatives of the NR type - spoke of Obama's charisma and oratorical skills, I always thought, "Huh? He's a bore! He's an empty suit. He's insincere."

But even when I was criticizing Trump, I could see why people liked him: he addressed their concerns, and he did so with that almost-indefinable thing called charisma.

I think it quite possible that he can restore confidence in this country. Even today, less than 24 hours after Trump's election, former Trump critics like Shepard Smith seemed to have picked up some of Trump's energy and optimism. Hopefully, this is a turning point for this country.
