Stunned Mexico ponders new relationship with US

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Hours after the United States elected Donald Trump to be its next president, Mexico began carefully laying the groundwork for a relationship with a new leader who campaigned against its citizens and threatened to wreak havoc with its economy.

President Enrique Pena Nieto sent a series of messages from his official Twitter account Wednesday morning, congratulating not Trump himself but the American electorate, and said he was ready to work with Trump to advance the countries' relationship.

"Mexico and the United States are friends, partners and allies that must continue collaborating for the competitiveness and development of North America," Pena Nieto wrote.

The messages came shortly after Mexico's Treasury Secretary Jose Antonio Meade tried to strike a reassuring tone in a news conference by saying that Mexico's financial position is strong in the face of a falling peso. He says no immediate actions are planned.

But the threat is real. The United States is Mexico's largest trading partner and the North American Free Trade Agreement, which Trump has said he wants to re-negotiate, is the backbone of that commerce.

Get your checkbook ready!

Seriously, I am confident DL can negotiate trade agreements that are beneficial for both sides but the days of bending over for them are over.

“Stunned Mexico ponders new relationship with US”

Look Mexico, we don’t blame you for taking advantage of our last president, he was pathetic and weak and in WAY over his head and you took advantage, we understand that, you were looking out for your best interests, we got it.

Well, now things are different, the new relationship is going to involve a lot of your lips and our a$$...Please be prepared.

....I saw last night the peso dropped one half....

That just means that the wall will cost Mexico twice as many Pesos. No big deal.

How do you like this crap of a statement by Mexico’s President?””Mexico and the United States are friends, partners and allies that must continue collaborating for the competitiveness and development of North America,” Pena Nieto wrote.”

Mexico has not been a friend to the American People or the United States at all. Friends don’t intentionally send their poor and impoverished citizens to suck the lifeblood out of their neighbors.

Mexico has had plenty of practice doing just that.

Its time Now to build a two layered wall on our Southern border with very explicit entry control points.

We also need to beef up our biometric information on anyone crossing that border.

Cool! I think Trump should hold a drawing to allow a minimum of one concrete, engineering, or construction firm from each of the 57...I mean 50 states to win a piece of the Wall construction contract. Even if it’s just symbolic, it would be cool to be able to say that every state, even the deepest blue ones, helped Build That Wall!

Mr. Trump needs to start explaining that to people, loudly, and repeatedly. If he could only manage to educate people he could change everything.

So True. My wife is of Mexican descent and she voted for Trump. She cannot stand how the borders are being left open because of the rampant abuse of people it causes. She says there is only one right way to emigrate here.

Mexico has lots of agriculture, plenty of oil and mineral resources, access to two oceans, and a large population. They could have a great economy if they got rid of their corrupt ruling class and instituted some serious reforms.

Mexico and the United States are friends, partners and allies...

No,no,no....Canada and the United States are friends, partners and allies.Mexico is a Third World cesspool trying to export her least literate, least accomplished, least law abiding citizens to the United States (and, perhaps,Canada as well).Good fences make good neighbors.A new and improved fence on our common border will prevent people, drugs, drug money *and* firearms crossing it...which should please officials of *both* countries.

The priority for deportations should be:
1) Those who commit violent crimes here,
2) The other criminals, INCLUDING every single one who illegally voted in US elections
3) Anyone who attempts to go on welfare
4) All the rest

It will be up to Mexico as to how quickly we decide to go down that list, and whether their economy survives.

Relations will be as good with Mexico, as Mexico wants them to be. Live within the laws of good neighbors, and you’ll have a good neighbor. Don’t, and you’re buying off more than you can chew.

Enforce your own borders. Keep your citizens in check.

Be good to your citizens, so they don’t have to flee for prosperity.

Mexico could be a much much better place.

It’s over. We Win, They Lose. They do all of this crap with a willing executive and docile congress. That’s all over. All of those unratified treaties, repudiated. The illegal EOs, lifted. Things are going to get a lot better fast, if we can survive the next 65 days.

Mexico, it is your turn!

Your turn to run the establishment elitist oligarchs out of town on a rail.

The UK did it with Brexit.
The US did it with Trump’s victory.

Now it is your turn to take your country back!
