Stunned Mexico ponders new relationship with US

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Hours after the United States elected Donald Trump to be its next president, Mexico began carefully laying the groundwork for a relationship with a new leader who campaigned against its citizens and threatened to wreak havoc with its economy.

President Enrique Pena Nieto sent a series of messages from his official Twitter account Wednesday morning, congratulating not Trump himself but the American electorate, and said he was ready to work with Trump to advance the countries' relationship.

"Mexico and the United States are friends, partners and allies that must continue collaborating for the competitiveness and development of North America," Pena Nieto wrote.

The messages came shortly after Mexico's Treasury Secretary Jose Antonio Meade tried to strike a reassuring tone in a news conference by saying that Mexico's financial position is strong in the face of a falling peso. He says no immediate actions are planned.

But the threat is real. The United States is Mexico's largest trading partner and the North American Free Trade Agreement, which Trump has said he wants to re-negotiate, is the backbone of that commerce.

There are all sorts of commercial possibilities. Somebody is going to have to paint those soul-stirring Diego Rivera murals on that new wall.

Please Lord, stop me from smirking at the crazy little Mexican dudes infesting the streets of the city. I don’t want to be accused of having used fighting smirks.

We have to stop integration of mexico, canada and the us. They have been doing this already with border agreemets and shared forces and that is why since BushII jack squat has ben done to stop mexico. And none of our guys ever metion mexicos laws and pocedures on their illegals.

This north american union crap is globalism. When you have no borders you have no countries and that is what the globalists are all doing now with muslms and mexicans and attempting to destroy sovreign naon states through unelected global world bodies and color of law.

They need to get their checkbooks out. The Wall isn’t going to pay for itself!

It will eventually pay for itself once it's erected - in the sense that the construction and operating costs equal the savings from not paying Mexico's freeloading trespassers .

Yeah, for the first time in a long time, they’ll be facing an American administration that won’t bend to their will.

He campaigned against Mexican citizens coming here “ILLEGALLY”. We are all against that, Get in line, qualify, have a skill to offer this country and you are welcome.
Don’t just walk over and be here because your country is a cesspool of corruption.
Now if he will slap a %80 tax on electronic transfers to Mexico. That should solve a large part of the problem.
