Here’s how much of the Arctic you’re personally responsible for melting (LOL alert)
Washington Post (what else??) ^ | Nov 3, 2016 | Brady Dennis

Dirk Notz calculates that for every person who drives a car 1,000 miles or takes a round-trip flight from New York to London, three square meters (about 32 square feet) of sea ice vanishes from the Arctic.

Researchers have long documented that human-fueled carbon dioxide emissions contribute to the overall warming of the planet — and, by extension, accelerate the diminishing of sea ice in the Arctic each year. But in a paper published Thursday in the journal Science, Notz and a colleague detail the complex set of calculations that allowed them to estimate how much Arctic sea ice melts for every metric ton of carbon dioxide emitted into the atmosphere.

Their answer? About three square meters.

The result, if accurate, helps illustrate how individual actions shape what often can seem a faraway problem. The average American, for instance, emits more than 16 metric tons of carbon each year, according to the World Bank. That would amount to the melting of about 48 square meters of ice in the Arctic, or about enough to cover the floor plan of a 500-square-foot apartment.

I can hardly wait to calculate how much melted ice my ‘95 F150 snowplow pickup is responsible for — while plowing the freakin’ snow!!

I’m going to start a huge tire-fire tonight, to see if I can up my share.

I’ve been averaging 1000 miles/month just driving for work for at least the last 18 months.

Awfully convenient that I can now calculate my impact so I can guilt myself to the proper level. (/sarcasm)

How much sea ice does Al Gore melt when he flies his private jet to a gorbal warming conference?

Looks like I need to hire me a private jet and some helicopters to help speed things up. Until then I guess I’ll just leave the HEMI idling in the driveway. ;-)

Dang! I drove a motorcycle to work today.

Tomorrow I’m going to pee my name in arctic ice and drive the Expedition.

Is this guy stupid or misquoted? Square meters is a two dimensional measurement. That means NO snow. The unit that means something would be cubic meters.

How about none? In fact, with the Sun out of its Solar Maximum phrase (and with the fear of another Maunder Minimum long quiet phase), there is a chance the ice pack in the Arctic could substantially increase.

I guess it was the cave men barbecuing Mastodon steaks that caused the great ice melt of the last Ice age.

Every time Al Gore flies on his personal jet, another polar bear drowns. It’s a tragedy.

_______

Not to mention all the hot air he puts out every time he opens his mouth. Enough to melt 50 square miles.

It’s only funny if you’re not stupid. Then it’s not funny at all, as the stupids willingly lead us into chains.

Lefties found out a long time ago their BS sells better if quantified. They can attach any number to their BS (it’s BS after all) and then tell us how many people are going to die if carbon isn’t capped, how much any particular activity “costs” society (because society owns you), and how many fluffy seal pups your car kills every year. It’s right next to parsing every new tax increase into the shortest time period possible, and expressing it in “lattes”. “Why, this new carbon tax only costs you a latte every twenty minutes”.

How about when I start up my fleet of D9 Caterpillars with bad rings and let them idle all day? Do I get a prize of some kind? What if I use them to bulldoze a rainforest? Any extra credit?

A couple years ago I calculated the amount of carbon sequestered by the trees on my property and determined I could increase my ‘carbon footprint’ more than 700 times its current value and still be ‘carbon neutral’. Shouldn’t the goobermint be paying property owners with forests for this valuable carbon sequestration service?

It’s OK I have about that much in frozen food and popsicles in my freezer. So it equals out.

First of all, square meters and square feet are measures of surface area, so the reporter is an idiot. He should be reporting the cubic feet of loss for it to have any meaning.

Secondly, I make about 32 cubic feet of ice in my freezer for every 1000 miles or so that I drive, so my 'ice loss' footprint is zero :-). Mind you most of that ends up in scotch.
