Trump used dubious tax dodge in 1990s; campaigns enter final week
San Jose Mercury ^ | November 1, 2016

Donald Trump avoided paying potentially hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes in a way even his own lawyers considered questionable, The New York Times reported Monday.

The newspaper said the maneuver also may explain how Trump posted a one-year loss of more than $900 million a few years later, enabling him to avoid paying federal income taxes for perhaps 18 years.

The Times said it obtained documents from a quarter-century ago showing Trump essentially traded the debt relief for nearly worthless “partnership equity” to avoid any tax liability. In practice, the strategy was almost identical to a tax maneuver that was already outlawed, but differed in minor details.

So Trump did something 25 years ago that was found to be by the IRS at that time and since then legal. Next.

We’d have to be fools to think that if the IRS had the goods on Trump they’d not have croaked him.

Cutting taxes that way was legal at the time. Unlike Hillary, Trump broke no laws.

They’re reaching and nothing they do works.

I did nt read the article

I seem to remember the Clintons taking tax deduction on Bill’s undies.

It is the responsibility of all citizens to use the tax code to their advantage.

Thank you, #1. Who wouldn’t want to reduce their tax obligation legally.

I have not heard any liberal turd blossoms brag about voluntarily paying additional monies to the treasury. All they need do is write a check.

LOL. Dubious? Trump uses an army of tax accountants to prepare his returns. The IRS has not challenged the legality of his returns. Where’s the beef?

Ah Ha! Now we know why he hasn’t released his tax returns. (Where is that in the rule book anyway?) If he did we’d see a direct link to Putin and the Russian (or Martian) hackers getting money from DJT to ruin the dnc. Like they need any help right?

Yawn.

I feel good about this though, as the Democrats being back on Russia and taxes says to me they’re out of new ammo.

Exactly! Trump didn’t make the rules. They were probably made by politicians who needed write-offs much smaller. Anyway when he took them (if I am not mistaken) was in the Clinton Pres. era???....we had money since spending and income were more balanced and we were not sending billions to our enemies...and young folk were working.

Ohhhh, for truth to return in all facets of government!!! We’ll see true unemployment for sure when a Republican is in office in ONE WEEK!!! (my prayer....)

And with a government run by Obama that uses the IRS as a tool to extract far too much wasteful spending from the middle class for welfare programs for illegals and faux refugees while penalizing them with Gruberized Obamacare penalties this won’t affect Trump at all. In fact it will make it look as though he used smart strategies to keep his own government from stealing from him. The IRS will find no sympathy after being used as a hammer for political purposes. So this BS dug up by Hillary cronies is just going to backfire.
