GOP sources: Rick Perry encouraged Michael McCaul to challenge Ted Cruz
WFAA 8 ABC ^ | 31 OCTOBER 2016 | TEXAS TRIBUNE

(TEXAS TRIBUNE) Late this summer, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry strongly encouraged U.S. Rep. Michael McCaul to challenge U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz's re-election bid in 2018, according to GOP sources.

The encouragement, which was relayed to The Texas Tribune by two Republican sources familiar with the correspondence, came around the same time that McCaul, an Austin Republican, emerged as a top potential challenger to Cruz's re-election efforts, amid an outcry among many grassroots conservatives over Cruz's decision not to endorse presidential nominee Donald Trump at the Republican National Convention.

Hillary and her Alinsky friends are the enemy. The primary was over a long time ago.

NEVER HILLARY!

Bad idea, he thinks natural born citizen means being born in a foreign country with a foreign national parent.

Nice to see you’ve chosen to commit messageboard suicide rather than continue to inflict your nasty, over-the-top self-righteousness on the rest of us.

I wholly approve of the move!

Get over it. The primary is over. Cruz is not the enemy of Liberty.

“whether or not a conservative should challenge Cruz”

Whether he loses in the primary or not, he will not be reelected in Texas. He lied via omission when he did not disclose he was a Canadian citizen in the last one.

A good democrat could ride that single meme to election.

Stories like this are the result of enemy efforts to divide us a week before the election. Let’s win next Tuesday and save worrying about Mr Cruz for another time.

Texans will not vote for a man that lied to them about being a Canadian citizen when he was last elected.

LOL, another Californian that knows everything about how Texas votes. Ted's approval ratings remain high, and McFaul's rating is a big fat F in Conservative Review.

I’m just saying that I don’t buy his line, that’s all.

I’d vote for him, but have no illusions about him. He’s a hack reading a script. The sad thing is that he’s about the best the traditional GOP can do these days.

Are you one of those Texans that will vote for a man that lied about being a Canadian citizen? Oh, and a proud nevertrumper to boot?

“If this country is going to have any future, Cruz is the core of it.”

So I take it you are for Socialism/Marxism? A foreign invader? What? Cruze should never be allowed to hold public office again, and it will be sad if Texans continue to re-elect him and his Cubano-Canadian bull$hit! I just hope Trump wins and wins again in four years, at least that will assure us that this a$$hole has no path to the White House!

Cruz gave his donor list to Mr. Trump so people like me could donate to him. Including direct appeals from Sen. Cruz to donate to the Trump campaign. That’s a hell of a lot more than Perry or McCaul did.

Never Hillary!

Rick Perry is a sleazy rat. He and the Mexican billionaire, Carlos Slim who owns the New York Times and all of Mexican TV, are busy building a pipeline across the beautiful Big Bend area of Texas to ship Texas oil to China. It’s a dirty shame that no one cares what happens to this hauntingly beautiful part of our state.

McCaul was my Congressman, and he is a lazy, ineffective, not particularly bright, Austin R-Establishment Rino. Cruz is far better in the Senate. McCaul only got his House seat because his wife’s father made huge money available to him.
