The Next ‘Little Ice Age’ Is Already Here, Russian Scientist Claims

A new study by a prominent Russian astrophysicist claims the “new Little Ice Age” started at the end of 2015 due to low solar activity, kicking off decades of “deep cooling” in the latter half of the 21st Century.

“As a result, the Earth has, and will continue to have, a negative average annual energy balance and a long-term adverse thermal condition,” Dr. Habibullo Abdussamatov, who is the head of space research for the Pulkovo Observatory at the Russian Academy of Sciences, wrote in a recent study.

“The quasi-centennial epoch of the new Little Ice Age has started at the end 2015 after the maximum phase of solar cycle 24,” Abdussamatov wrote. “The start of a solar grand minimum is anticipated in solar cycle 27 in 2043 and the beginning of phase of deep cooling in the new Little Ice Age in 2060.”

Please everybody do your civic duty and start a big ol' compost pile in your backyard. These babies churn out substantial amounts of the BEST greenhouse gases (not only CO2 but also water vapor and methane) --- and...

the Greenies still love you.

Better living through biomass.

Cost of food going up and up and up some more. The Little Ice Age of your probably is the primary cause of the French Revolution. The people really had no bread.

It’s been so bad here (relatively speaking since were spoiled by desert weather conditions) we started saying we might as well go live in Seattle!

Now I’m confused. (Not a hard thing to do, I admit :) I thought Global Warming was “settled science.”

______________________________________________________

I'll tell you what the settled science is for “Globull warming”. For most of the time in earth's history we have been in an ice age, at least it has been that way for the last 4 million years or so. about every 100,000 years or so we have a warm “Interglacial period”, they usually last about 10,000 years or so. We have been in the current warm period for almost 12,000 years. We are way overdue for an ice age, not a mini ice age but one of those 100,000 year long ice ages. This my friends is settled science! If you own property north of the Mason Dixon line you may want to consider moving south, soon.

Only in rigged computer models, which bear as much resemblance to the complexity of Earth’s climate as a stack of Lego’s has to the Space Shuttle, does our output of CO2 have any effect whatsoever. It is and has always been just a theory, repudiated by the scientist who came up with it before he died. The purpose of the “climate emergency” has always been money and political power. Nothing more and nothing less.

Back to the 1970s.

I think the data shows that we are in a cooling cycle right now, but we’re no more going to have “Global Cooling” (i.e., a Little Ice Age) than we had “Global Warming”. We just have the cycle. It warms some, it cools some.

A pendulum that goes too far one way will go too far the other way.

It has been colder than usual and rained nearly 3 weeks straight. I’ve never seen this much rain. But it’s obviously global warming. And Global warming will cause the next ice age.

Canadian western provinces probably have a loss of about 20% of the grain harvest due to snow and rain—the same conditions that resulted in famine for Europe in the last solar grand minimum, which contributed to the 18th century revolution in France.

Since the mid 19th century the sun has experienced progressively more active sunspot cycles—which reversed with the close of the 20th century. There is a correspondence between temperature trends and the solar activity.

Anthropomorphic global warming might have bought us as much as 2,000 years. It started over 4,000 years ago (with the start of agriculture). Based on previous ice ages, we’re about 2,000 years overdue. The additional “greenhouse gases” (in quotes, because there’s no actual greenhouse involved — it’s just a simplistic metaphor) have kept the cooling at bay, so far. It could get chilly for the next million years, or so. Pretty much all of Canada was covered by miles-thick ice; so, I guess you’d better start on that Northern border wall soon.

I haven’t seen the sun here in about four weeks; mud is so deep and sticky can’t get a damn thing done.
Temps are a little up though because of the cloud cover, wood shed is full and haven’t had to have a fire in about 3 weeks.
Need the water, but it is still a pain in the neck for this time of year.
No. Cal.

“Sorry for the extra posts. I guess I get impatient.”

Just be glad it is not ecommerce and ordering your spouse some expensive jewelry. Now THAT would be bad.

My sincere condolences. I would LOVE to share the bounty of rainfall I am receiving, but it’s kinda hard to ship rain kitty-corner across the continent.

G_d bless.

“Wet fall indeed. It took 6 1/2 weeks before the rain here stopped long enough for me to mow my lawn 10 days ago.

It’s been raining pretty much every day since. The clouds will break up, sun comes out for 20 minutes, then the skies close in and the deluge begins anew.

At least I don’t have to shovel it < BG >”

I’m jealous. Here in Western Alabama the high today was 87 and it hasn’t rained in 44 days. We are under a burn ban and my yard is getting as sandy as the Gulf beaches. The drought is terrible and, unfortunately, not going to end anytime soon. I’m so sick of the hot, dry weather and constant sunshine that it’s becoming depressing.

I realize that all that rain may be an inconvenience to you but, to most Alabamians, it sounds like heaven.

Wish you could send that rain our way!

Or the fluctuation in the energy output of the Sun, which happens on a smaller time scale than the Milankovitch Cycles.

“Anthropomorphic global warming might have bought us as much as 2,000 years. It started over 4,000 years ago (with the start of agriculture).”

Although I’ve seen papers claiming the RWP and MWP were due to agriculture, most climate scientists agree that AGW didn’t start until 1870 some would say 1950. NASA has webpages that clearly state the warming from 1915-1945 is due primary to “natural variability”.

” I guess you’d better start on that Northern border wall soon.”

We don’t want a wall there, American white males will need an escape route when the pogroms against them start here.

” most climate scientists agree ....”

That’s both a foregone conclusion, and less-than-convincing.

It’s (probably) true that it wasn’t getting warmer, until 1870 (excepting the Little Ice Age) — but, it’s also quite possible that it was warmer than it would have been without agriculture. We simply don’t have a counter-factual for comparison. (Although, it would be very easy to create a computer model to “prove” it.)

If only actual scientists were taking a dispassionate look at this.
