So if the damage is great enough for Hillary to be removed from the ticket, what happens to the early and absentee votes already sent in?
I read that there are several states that offer people who voted early the opportunity to change their vote on or before election day.

That is correct and the Electors may vote for anyone they wish.(In most cases, even someone NOT on the official ticket such as Biden or Sanders or believe it or not, even Trump)
I’m sure they will treat them as they intended to in the first place, 3 for Hillary (now her replacement), 1 for Trump.

(4) Advocacy of use of force or violence to overthrow the government of the United States, or of the alteration of the form of government of the United States by unconstitutional means.

The only Democrat I ever voted for was Nick Begich, Congressman from Alaska. He and Hale Boggs D-La, Speaker of the House, were missing on a flight from Anchorage to Juneau. That left only Don Young, I was for Don young, but I was against there only being one person running on the ticket.
They were never found. Begich was re-elected, causing a special election. Don Young was properly elected and has served ever since. I have voted for him every time he has come up.
Louisiana once allowed a person who had voted absentee to vote at his regular precinct on election day; in such cases the absentee ballot was destroyed. Now they have no-excuse “early voting” there too.
A real possibility: this might be how Romney re-enters the race he never entered. I don’t think they will urge that Egg McMuffin be the one chosen by the electors.
Keyword is employment. While elected officials are employees they are not hired as such. There is no vetting by the hiring agency. Now with Clinton the question of security clearance does arise. For a time in October 41 FDR was denied access to Magic intercepts because he improperly was disposing of them. Simply tossing them in wastepaper baskets.
They go to the popular Kaine if the electors say so. If the outcome is close, the electors would have to vote in near unison to prevail, something easy for a popular Democrat. I say Kaine is popular because VA says he is.
I read that some Traficant die-hards in OH are switching over to Trump this year. May be true!
If I were the justice, after she was done, I'd just say: "Sorry I just don't believe you. I can't do it. Get somebody else."

§2071. Concealment, removal, or mutilation generally
(a) Whoever willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, or destroys, or attempts to do so, or, with intent to do so takes and carries away any record, proceeding, map, book, paper, document, or other thing, filed or deposited with any clerk or officer of any court of the United States, or in any public office, or with any judicial or public officer of the United States, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.
(b) Whoever, having the custody of any such record, proceeding, map, book, document, paper, or other thing, willfully and unlawfully conceals, removes, mutilates, obliterates, falsifies, or destroys the same, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both;
and shall forfeit his office and be disqualified from holding any office under the United States.
As used in this subsection, the term "office" does not include the office held by any person as a retired officer of the Armed Forces of the United States.
