I think Putin wants the Ukraine’s North to remain a conflict.....until the time of his choosing otherwise....it’s on his border and thus enables his military to protect the border invasion Ukrainian route into Russia should war ever be declared. They have not forgotten the last time Russia was invaded via Ukraine....

Won't happen unless Ukraine joins NATO or the US attacks Syria. Ukraine is a huge resource sink that Russia doesn't want to directly rule.

He’s got the Crimea back and access to the Black Sea. Its a 350 year Russian project
