Great map. I wonder how many men are involved in this on all sides.

Probably on the order of tens of thousands.

This is not a siege. They’re giving ISIS the opportunity to retreat westward towards Syria and Turkey. Else the would have enveloped them.

It probably has to do with the high number of expected civilians still in Mosul.

Think about this:

What if all a sudden Iran started attacking the forces attacking Mosul? Or if Turkey starts intervening because the don’t like the Kurds in Iraq?

Where is the Mosul Dam in relation to the city? I have a friend who is working on the dam, and he’s only been there a month. I (and lots of other people)told him he was crazy to go there, but they promised him a fortune.

If I were ISIS, I would move north to retake and blow the dam.

If you open the link to the map, it is at the bottom left of the water to the northeast. It looks like the Kurds are working to contain the northern side of the city which I would assume is also meant to reinforce containment of the dam.

Based on the symbols, it appears that nine Kurdish units are engaged with the enemy, while only three Iraqi units are in contact.

My first thoughts as well dp0622.

Here’s another site everyone might be interested in that tracks events around the world with pretty quick updates. It can be slow at times, but I’ve used it to follow mosul, syria, and ukraine situation. Attached is on the isis link:

Your friend is/will be in the thick of it sooner or later. The dam is the prize. Oh and we have already fought for it before.

The dam is upstream from Mosul.

Mosul is the Biblical city of Nineveh.

I’m not a Bible scholar, but isn’t the flooding of Nineveh foretold in the bible?

Good luck to your friend.
