In the past maybe. This year the bias is off the charts. It may simply be that no amount of skewing can hide a Trump surge. That said, I'm still burned by 2012 and 2008 thinking that the GOP was secretly leading.
Obama drew enthusiasm and woke a dormant chunk of the electorate because skin color. McCain and Romney were dull milquetoast Republicans.
Trump commands enthusiasm and has summoned a great swath of disillusioned and non-participating plain folk who view his candidacy as a powerful amplification of their voice that Washington cannot silence despite threat and treachery. Hillary is a D-robot with a shrill, raspy canned voice.
In both cases the polls are not taking into account the enthusiasm gap and hidden support. And one case is far more energetic than the other.
Regardless and as always, we have work to do, and this year, with the wind at our back.
Secretly leading? Romney was ahead in all the polls in 2012 except two and he lost by 4 points.
